Tom, last night (about a half hour ago) you asked, "Didn't they have any songs you liked?"

Yes, I don't doubt that there were songs that I like, but I just don't like singing karaoke.  I don't mind watching and being with my friends (other than when it's always too damn loud...and last night was no exception), but karaoke has never been something that I enjoy doing. :-\

TOD:  I've always liked the word "disenfranchise"- I have no idea why, except it seems to sound like exactly what it means.

And of course "Shipoopi."

Why am I up at four-thirty?  Hopefully I can fall back asleep.  Re Gene Wilder - one Facebook story showed up on my newsfeed from an actress who said she'd met and worked with him and wanted to share her story.  They were appearing together in a scene on a boat in The Frisco Kid.  They were doing a take and Gene started to tear up - director Robert Aldrich yelled cut.  Gene leaned into the actress and said, "You're nothing like Gilda."  Then she tells us the scene ended up on the cutting room floor.  So, what's wrong with this picture?

a) The Frisco Kid was shot in 1978 and released in 1979.
b) Wilder didn't meet Gilda Radner until 1981 on the movie Hanky Panky
c) this heartbreaking line he supposedly said, "You're nothing like Gilda" means she's saying Gilda had already passed away and he was still not over it.  Gilda did not pass away until 1989, a decade after The Frisco Kid was filmed.

So, a few of her friends come on with "beautiful story."  And it is.  But it ain't true.  Do you correct her and set her straight or let it go?

Did the actress ever do any later films with Gene Wilder where that might have actually happened?

Nope, she has VERY limited film and TV credits, maybe ten things.  As always on the imdb, where you can put your own stuff, it says she's "best known" for this and for that, but looking at her credits and what she played, she appears to me, at least in those early days, to have been an extra or bit player.  She was in The China Syndrome - that's her biggest credit, but it's like not really a character name.

I've got more "Crapshooters Ballet" today.  I think I became frustrated with George Bassman around m. 60, so I have 199 bars to go.

BK, I would say nothing about the inaccuracies in the actress' story. She needed to boost her ego and reinforce her image as a poor little waif with it.  Shooting her down will make you look bad and a bully.

I'd then drop the lying bitch as a friend.

I wouldn't say anything either, BK. We can't police all of the errors on Facebook.

It's funny but I was telling my friend Bonnie just yesterday about two words I loved: mellifluous and elephantine. She chimed in with onerous. Another on the list is festoon.

As for curse words, I love the malleability of fuck in all its permutations and glories. So handy, so pliable, so exultant and low at the same time. So right. So wrong.
