After church and lunch today, we went down to the river to see the Big Four Bridge, which you can walk over, going from Kentucky to Indiana (or vice versa).

Dad made it to the bridge, which was a far hike. He and I sat down for a rest while Mom walked the whole length of the whole bridge and enjoyed it.

The Labor Day sale at Half Price Books left me a little cash poor. Found a copy of Ministry of Fear, which I've wanted and for some reason just never bought. Also found a noirish early novel from John D. MacDonald that I don't think I've read, Down Low Tide. It sounds wonderful, lean and mean.

I got into John D. MacDonald big time when I was living in Florida. He had a gorgeous home on the beach in Sarasota, and they would have a festival in his memory on a regular basis. I did a story on his effect on other Florida mystery writers, so I also dove in and read maybe 40 or 50 of novels back then. They were like popcorn. I couldn't put them down. Now, I like to read one every year or so. Good pulpy stuff.

I got into John D. MacDonald when I was living in Redondo Beach, CA, and I read a whole slew of them by the pool during the summer of '84.  I'd grown up in Fort Lauderdale during (more or less) the years he was writing about, and absolutely loved them.  I've been more than ready for a return to the whole series for the longest time now.

I just got an email confirming my reservation for a party of 10 for Sept. 17 at a restaurant in San Antonio. And guess what? I didn't make the reservation. I don't have anything on my calendar for that time.

I hope someone ain't using my name.

I'm at the theater waiting for my friend to finish his shift in concessions.  He'll join me before the movie starts...which will be in about five minutes or so.  Because he volunteers here, he gets free passes and passes them on to me every once in a while. :)

Back when you had a break in didn't you say another local with the same name as you also had also had a break in?  Perhaps it's his reservation.  If this is a  restaurant where you are known, they may have just assumed it was you

I hope my Act One G&D check arrives soon.  Those Ohio property taxes really screwed up my life last month.

I read that as GD Act I check

I spent the day trying to get things done in the event that storm hits harder than we hope.

Also getting things done at church... stocking  the freezer with cakes for coffee hour while I am away, and filling the pantry with apple  juice, stocking up on sugar
