IN AND OUT OF WHACK
« on: October 22, 2016, 12:26:29 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both in whack and out of whack, and now it is time for you to post until the in and out of whack cows come home.

Comparing back and forth the Bernstein and Vienna Symphony of the Randall Thompson - of course the Bernstein is in stereo and I was wrong in the notes - it does have very good and crisp sound, whereas the Bay Cities sounds like crap (not our fault - the recording is terrible) - interestingly, the Bernstein has always felt ponderous in its opening minutes, so I was surprised to see the Bernstein is only two seconds longer - but analyzing them carefully, while he begins much too ponderously with no sense of urgency or excitement, he then picks up the tempo about ninety seconds in and finds at least something approximating the urgency and excitement - it's better than I said in the notes, although the NY Phil is, for me, not at its best here - nothing terrible, just a bit ragged at times, probably due to Mr. Bernstein.  But this symphony is so brilliantly melodic and American in feel (but not Copland-esque), it's absolutely worth getting - the music is glorious.  I think the CD can be had very cheaply.

Way too early for this Saturday morning.

But it was a toss-and-turn-y night, so what the heck.

DR George, I know you've posted the Photobucket instructions in the past, but please do so one more time and I'll start using it.

I'll also replace the now-you-see-it, now-you-don't BAM! image!    :)

It's a very gray morning here.  I had weird dreams, all fading from memory as I type this.  i do remember that DR Ginny, Richard and I went with two men I can no longer identify to a dreadful production of What the Butler Saw in what seemed a football stadium. I also remember that I talked to actress Jane Houdyshell about what a mess the profuction was.

I have nothing more to report back to work on the song I'm orchestrating, a look at this song I was asked to write as a choral arrangement, a bit of cooking, ands a call to Joshie to see how he's surviving.  I expect to get the remainder of Guys & Dolls Act Two at some point this weekend.

Saturday morning greetings!  I have a lot to do today before Richard and I leave tomorrow for a little trip to Richmond, VA.  He has a clergy meeting at the end of the week and we're going to visit Thomas Jefferson's Monticello and James Madison's Montpelier on the way.

Rob and Mary Linda babysat here last night with their godson (our great nephew J) while his dad helped coach the Franklin Wildcats and his mom and grandma cheered them on.  J is a busy 18-month-old and it was delightful to have him here.

I was out of whack from so little sleep, but I've made up a couple of hours, AND I'm eating scrambled eggs and bacon which are putting me nicely back into whack.

I'm afraid all the donuts won't get to your friend, Elmore. I got them from a place that was on the "best donuts in every state" list. My sample was awesome.
