A happy and spooky Halloween to all!

We don't get trick or treaters here, so we'll be enjoying a fairly quiet evening with a friend who's dropping by to watch a movie or whatever.  I have also heard there are Sloppy Joes on the menu, which is like crack for the likes of moi.

Everyone have a great Halloween.  We should have mild weather for the kiddies this evening....I expect several Star Wars characters along with the usual witches, SpiderMen, and hoboes.

TOD:
"Fully Committed" with Jason Graae. This was the funniest damn play I ever saw. My cheeks were sore when I left from smiling and laughing so much. Even the program was funny where Jason thanked and complimented the entire cast (which was only him).

Elaine Stritch's one-person show

Monday morning greetings!  We're back to our routine and getting ready to greet some Trick or Treaters this evening.  We usually don't get very many.

TOD:

I've seen three one-person shows.  Two were Dame Edna and both were hilarious.

The third was my first.  It was at Ford's Theater in Washington DC and it was a special night during which time the play was supposed to be filmed.   It is my recollection that it was "Give Em Hell, Harry" with Mr. James Whitmore.

I looked it up and found that it was, indeed, filmed, but in Seattle.

I then recalled that there were some technical difficulties during the performance I attended (all Attendees were invited and got in free of charge, by the way.)  We had been there two hours and hadn't gotten through Act 1.  My party and I left for other amusements.

My thinking is they couldn't sort out the technical stuff at Ford's and decided to re-try it in Seattle.  This was in the Fall of 1975 at the end of the show's run in D.C.

Do Spalding Grey's monologues qualify for the TOD?  If so, I'd include them as well.

I saw Spalding Grey here in Olympia years ago.  He's definitely on my list of the best.  Otherwise, I'll include:

Seen Live:
Avery Brooks in Paul Robeson (on Broadway in 1995...one of the BEST theatrical experiences of my life!)
Dame Edna live in Seattle
Frank Ferrante in Groucho, A Life in Revue
Hal Holbrook, Mark Twain Tonight!
I saw Lily Tomlin live, but it wasn't The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe.  It was a solo act, but I don't know if it was an actual "show."  But she was incredible.

On TV/video:
John Leguizamo (a couple of shows, I forget which)
Anna Deveare Smith (a couple of shows...ditto ::) )
Elaine Stritch, At Liberty

Audio only:
Bea Arthur, Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends
Patrick Stewart, A Christmas Carol (I bought the audio recording of this for my sister and it's fantastic)

My cousin Sue Ellen, ehose poems include one called "The Ghosts in Grandma's House," sent me this photo of her mother, my aunt Dorothy, and her brother Bob shoveling snow outside the house at 711 Tenth Avenue around 1945.  It looked scarier then.  Now it has that nice aluminum siding.

I have been to see Mom and to Kroger for a prescription and the things we forgot yesterday.  Home now, ready for trick or treaters!

Did my banking, then noticed that one of the rear tires was nearly flat - I've been procrastinating like crazy about buying the two rear tires that I've known were bad for the last two months - but this was REALLY low, so I went and put gas in the motor car and air in the tire, then went directly to the gas station where I've gotten tires before - I'd been there two months ago so had my quote and I left the car there and it should be ready in about an hour.

Then I walked to Jerry's Deli and met some friends for lunch.  I had an omelet and an English muffin.  They drove me to the mail place where I picked up a couple of small packages, then they drove me home.

When I get the call the car is ready, I'll jog over there and get it, then do the rest of the jog, then get ready for the trick or treaters.

Listening to this new rerecording of Godzilla, the original film score from 1954 - it's really great.
