Made it to Crete. The unit apparently comes with two (outdoor) cats. Nice.

I voted early, so why do I have to keep seeing all these political ads on TV?

Tuesday morning greetings!  This is a quick Hi and BYE before I head to the library where my career began for a discussion of Anna Quindlin's Miller's Valley.  I'd read it back in the spring and talked it up to this group, so I kind of have to show up...

I'm up, I'm up - maybe six hours of sleep because I got an e-mail I saw just before going to bed and I had to think about how to respond - from one of our Kritzerlanders, first time doing one of our shows, who's not feeling up to snuff and who asked if they could cut one song.  What they've done, in fact, is so overextended themselves this week I'm sure they're in panic mode.  But I've bent over backwards for the singer - they couldn't do the second rehearsal tomorrow so I said they could come in an hour ahead before the stumble-through (I will not let anyone do anything without their two rehearsals and the stumble-through).  I'm glad I had a night to sleep on it, because my response would not have been so fun to read had I written it last night.  So, I've told the singer our deal - that our shows are highly-structured, well planned and rehearsed, and to suddenly remove a song that serves a very specific purpose in a very specific spot in the show, kind of plays havoc with everything, actually.  I told her if we have to we can cut her third song, but that I didn't think we should make that decision now - I said let's see how they're feeling on Saturday.

Jane, in answer to your question, I'm still waiting on a copy of Hillbilly Elegy to come in at the library. Maybe when I get back home.

I asked because it automatically checked out on my eBook library account.  I have decided to take a break from the current book I am reading, IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE, as HILLBILLY ELEGY is on the Goodreads list of books to vote for under BEST MEMOIR & AUTOBIOGRAPHY.

Has anyone read IN THE NAME OF THE ROSE?  It tends to pop up on lists of books one should read.  We have had the book for years and I just never got around to reading it, or I thought I hadn't read it.  I remember not enjoying the prologue so I basically skipped it this time.  So far what I am reading seems way too familiar.

I should  learn that lesson MR BK - I usually just say what I think at first.....and it's usually not the most diplomatic or productive.

Well, unfortunately one irritant has just presented itself and I've dealt with it as best as possible.

But the BIG irritant for me has been the lack of ticket sales for The Brain.  That is just really bugging me right now and I'm about to get really snippy about it when I send out my next eBlast.

And that used to be so unlike me.

Getting over it, that is.

I used to fume over such things.

Going through some major medical issues gives one a new perspective on what is important and what is not.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.

Name of the Rose by Humberto Eco? Brilliant mind, terrible character writer.
