I've gotten charley horses in my calves from waking up, stretching and pointing my toes too hard in the process, causing a muscle spasm. I learned that the cure is to do just the opposite (which makes sense) - you flex your foot as hard as you can. It works! The muscle relaxes and the pain instantly goes away.

That is what I do, however, instant is often not the case.  Most of my life I have suffered from foot and calf cramps many of which were initially so painful they hurt for days.

Today, we went and watched something most unusual. One of the merchants that we met out in the middle of nowhere invited us to join his family for their annual raki making.

Turkish raki is like ouzo. Cretan raki is more like vodka in that it is made with potatoes and the remains of the grapes from the winemaking (all the seeds, stems and skins). It's then distilled.

This is super cool  8)

I got charley horses while on the plane over. I had to drink much more water in order for them to go away, so, BK, you may want to drink a glass or two of water before bed.

Another friend swears by tonic water for her charley horse/cramps during sleep. I only like tonic, though, if it has gin in it.

I find taking my shoes off on long flights helps.  When sitting I do foot and ankle stretches and move my legs around.  I get up a lot and do calf stretches and go up and down on my toes.  If I leave my shoes on I notice I have more cramps in the days following the flight.

I've been watching BRIEF ENCOUNTERS, a British series on Acorn TV. I didn't think it was my sort of thing, but I'm having a rather unplanned moratorium on my usual gritty drama and this is lighter. It has more substance than I gave it credit for at first. I find myself caring about some of the characters and looking forward to the rest of the series.

DR Jane, are you watching season 2 of A PLACE TO CALL HOME? I'm saving season 3 for the holidays, because I know that once I resume watching it I won't want to stop.

I think it's a good idea to stretch inflight. Your legs need circulation.

We have watched the first two episodes of season 3.  The series was cancelled and they wrapped up the ending on season 2, and then had a reprieve.  They made a few changes to the end of season 2, including adding a cliffhanger.  We first watched the "happy" ending and then correctly guessed what the changes would be-lol.

Saturday evening greetings!  After a terrible night's sleep, I spent another several hours helping at the Holiday Bazaar.  My shift was to end at 1pm, which meant I was there as people started gathering stuff up and not paying until the half-price sale began at 1.  They're like vultures, hoping to get a 50-cent ornament for a quarter.  I ended up staying until about 1:30 to help with the rush.

So, I came home, had lunch, called and left a voicemail for my sister, and napped until she called me back.  Now I think I'll be able to stay awake for Michigan football - Go, Blue!

I'm up, I'm up - been up since eight-thirty - about five and a half hours of sleep.  Had to leave in the morning and came back around one and have been doing and doing ever since.  I had bacon and eggs and toast for my main meal o' the day, and in about five minutes I'll go to Gelson's to get a little snack for later.

I abhor the bad behavior but I have to say from what I've seen it's not only coming from one side.  It's okay to be angry whatever side you're on, but not when it becomes anything outside of ranting to oneself.  Start getting ugly in public and I'm all for the police carting you away but quick.

I love this quote by Abraham Lincoln, my childhood hero.

"Let us neither express, nor cherish, any harsh feeling towards any citizen who, by his vote, has differed with us. Let us at all times remember that all American citizens are brothers of a common country, and should dwell together in the bonds of fraternal feeling." - Abraham Lincoln

Unfortunately people didn't listen to him back then.

Well, this is interesting.  Today, I turned in the older model of my two DVRs.  Because of the Comcast "upgrade" (even though it's not really better is some respects), there were some channels that my older DVR no longer played correctly.  There was sound, but the screen was completely blank, so I finally needed to get it replaced.

The "new" DVR was shrink-wrapped and certainly looked new, but when I got it all set up, I looked through the options and there are more than 40, count 'em, FORTY movies and a few TV episodes already recorded on it!  AND there are 16 TV series set up to record, although some shows have ended.

Most of the movies are Hallmark channel movies.  I don't know what that's all about.  I can easily delete them, but it's just funny that so much is stuff is still on this DVR.  I wonder if this happens very often. :D

Right now, I'm finally watching "Limitless" with Bradley Cooper that I got from Netflix a couple of months ago.
