Interesting thread :)  Maybe someone will start one on the fact that I haven't posted there in two years.

Listening to Sibelius - the fifth symphony a wonderful piece.  I'm not thrilled with this performance by Davis.  So, I may reupload the Maazel, which I like better.

I thought you were on Menotti!

Did anyone watch Gypsy with Imelda Staunton?   I didn't care too much for it.  I much preferred Patti LuPone's version.

BK - Did you read the rest of the bigger thread?   It could provide hours o' fun in an endless loop-the-loop.  All That Chat refers to Broadway World, which refers back to ATC.

The temperature went down about 30 degrees today.  And it's very windy.  No snow, though!

I didn't see the whole thing yet, but in the spirit of ATC/BWW, I did write the Some People parody lyric based on Ben Brantley's review.   :)

What was your highest temp because it looked warmer to me than it is here.

In B. Barrett news, he's going to play King George in "Spamilton," the "Hamilton" parody at the Triad, from November 29-December 4th.

I was still feeling rather poorly, but my cousin from Scranton was in town (which is not that often), so I took a chance anyway and got out of the house to see the Fiddler revival.  Danny Burstein was out today, Adam Grupper was the standby, and my cousin decided not to exchange the tickets because she really wanted to see this revival.  I'm a big Bartlett Sher fan, and he has never done wrong with a revival in my estimation, so of course I loved it and wept uncontrollably, except when I was laughing.

Alix Korey was a special hoot as Yente, as expected!   I put this up there with the Mary Stout Mother Burnside in MAME, which for me is high praise.

When I was watching the news, it was 37, but now it's in the 40's.  I thought it was strange it went back up.

I probably wouldn't have even remembered the name Alix Korey, except that I had seen her in "Sugar."  She played Sweet Sue and was hilarious.  I also thought she was great in Fiddler.

I saw something much higher and figured it was wrong, especially since you mentioned it wasn't snowing ;D

We were warmer here.

We had a beautiful double rainbow today that appeared as we were returning home from our walk.  Nice too was that it had stopped raining :)

This reminds me that the Great Performances from Lincoln Center broadcast of the New York City Ballet's The Nutcracker from 2013 (I think) is finally getting a DVD release.  this live performance is far superior to the 1990s film version with Kevin Kline narrating.  Balanchine's direction of the children in the party scene is so fantastic, and those dresses for the "Waltz of the Flowers" are really some of Karinska's best work.

I wonder who's taken over her shop since her death.  She was a genius.

I have finished Menotti - what a wonderful composer.  Just wanted to hear all the Colin Davis Sibelius - this is, I think, another case, like the Dutoit Planets, where people just jump on a bandwagon.  Like Maazel, there's nothing wrong with any of these performances, although the sound is muddy to my ears, but none of it approaches a conductor like Ormandy.  I may give another listen to the Maazel set, and I may even try another set at some point.

Spent the last hour revising Kay's liner notes - smoothing them out, rearranging things so that everything is clear and progresses nicely.

Because I knew I was eating only one chicken breast and the side of pasta salad, I allowed myself a real treat for my snack - a chocolate peanut butter donut.
