Jane, the San Antonio Cocktail Conference starts in four days. Here are four variations on the Manhattan you might enjoy.

Thank you.  I shall show this to Keith.  Last night, the restaurant that makes great Manhattan's was off a bit.  I thought it might have been the vermouth because I know Keith notices when the quality of the vermouth isn't great.  He thought the bartender might have been heavy handed with the bitters.  I still drank it all ;)

DR John is there anyway you can get the recipe for the incredible Old Fashioned I had?  I would like to compare it to Craig's recipe.  I should tell him about the trick to dissolve the sugar cube.

I'm home.  It was a wet and slippery day, but Central Park was beautiful.  The City always looks great in the snow.

I met my friends Kathy and John this afternoon for a smackerel,  Today is her birthday and she and John flew in from Columbus.  I last saw them around 2001.  Kathy's sister Carolyn was my brother Macbeth's first wife, 1973-1984. She was in my summer produyion of The Apple Tree in 1978.

Now I'm ready to dry off and nap.  Walking in the snow on a bad leg is really exhausting.

Wow.  Those all sound good, even if I don't know what Averna, Amer Picon, and Punt e Mes are!

Same here.  They should all have bourbon cherries, not maraschino.

Would life be better for you if he had stayed married to his first wife?

George, I love the story about the coin jinglers. Thankfully, there haven't been any while I've been ushering.

My next ushering will be Pilobolus, which is a dance company. Any noise at all will be distracting.

They've come to Olympia a few times.  They're one of the dance troups that people seem to either love or just not care for (I wouldn't say hate).  I like them.

Jane - Skip picked Liam up and carried him over the heavy-salt areas.

He uses some goopy stuff called Musher's (?) on Liam's paws to deal with the salt; normally that's good enough.

I was wondering that also.  Was he a Macbeth before the second wife?

(In my family, my brother's wife seems to have been the awful influence over my brother.  I never saw any indication in my brother of the horrible behavior before his wife started exerting her influence.)

His nurse said I can bring him some homemade food. So I am making yogurt and will make some turkey soup and Magic Bullet it.
Magic Bullet? Is that like tequila?

LOL.  Also confused I googled it.

My mom actually gave me a Magic Bullet a couple of weeks ago...not specifically for Christmas.  She just had one and didn't need it.  I haven't used it, yet, though.

Finished futzing and finessing and then wrote four new pages.  I have just introduced a new, major character, so that will be fun now.  Hadley Miller and family came by so she could run her song for me - she's doing Tchaikovsky - she's actually a year younger than Melody Hollis was when we had her do it - but she's already got it down and I only had to correct about three pronunciations.  It will be a lot of fun.  So, now I'll take a little break, go pick up mail, and then in a bit try to write two or three more pages.  That will leave me only three or four to do later.  I won't be printing out today - I'll print out tomorrow and take Muse Margaret the pages around three.  So she'll get around eighty pages, maybe a bit more.  That's the most pages she's ever gotten of the beginning of a book, I think.

Lady M is his third wife!  How can one even speculate how another's choice in spouse would affect his own life?

I wish I had known about Musher's though I don't think I have ever had to deal with the about of salt you do living in the city.  We just cleaned the paws when we returned home.  More often we had snow icicles to clean off the paws than salt.

So, here are Kathy and I this afternoon at Langan's.  I've known her since 1973 or so.  She looks so much like her mother.

Larry -

Well, if someone is a totally nice guy before marrying "Lady Macbeth," and became a "Macbeth" after marrying her, you can figure that more likely than not there's a connection.

I woke up yesterday feeling really good and thinking--HOPING--that this Thing was behind me. Today I woke up feeling sick. Ugh! It's still not bad, though. I nixed my exciting plans for a day of cleaning and laundry. I'm taking it easy instead.

Then I received a call that an old friend passed away. Sigh. He had SIX strokes last summer and I don't know how he held on as long as he did. As it happens, my last communication with him was the box of See's candy that I sent him for Christmas. I think there are worse ways to say goodbye. He could no longer speak, so we couldn't talk. He was still able to eat and I was told that he really enjoyed the See's.

That's a shame. I'm sorry to hear it. "Love" relationships can indeed have a huge effect--and not always positive.
