Jane, here's the recipe I got from Christopher Ware, the bar genius at Paramour:

She might have had the Barrel Aged Cognac Old Fashioned.  I took Camus VSOP and aged it for 1 year and 1 month in a 20 liter barrel.  The recipe is roughly 2 oz. Choice of Spirit, 4-5 dashes Angostura, a sugar cube, ice and a orange zest if she wants to make it now and not wait a year!

Thank you for asking, and please thank Christopher for sharing.  I had the one on the menu.  I don't recall it was made with aged Cognac.  WOW, what a recipe.  The recipe is almost identical to Craig's which I love.  It must have been the aged cognac that made it extra special. 
2 0z. bourbon
3-4 dashes Angostura bitters
1 tsp. simple syrup or finely ground sugar (with just a bit of water)
Orange peel for garnish

Next time I am at a proper bar I will ask them to make me an old fashioned with cognac.  Without the aging it won't be the same but I am curious to try it.  I don't have all the ingredients to make it at home.  When Craig lived with us he would make one for himself and a half drink for me.  The funny thing was all that time I had no idea what I was drinking, just that it was Good.

Yeah, it looks good. The wood will give it a little extra oomph, but you could age it in a good glass jar. Just keep it out of sunlight.

Is the Golden Globe show on tape delay on the West coast?

I've done eight pages so far.  Muse Margaret called and she is very happy and loving this book.  That, of course, made me very happy.  She loves the lead character, loves the new character I just introduced twenty pages ago, and she thinks the story is working really well.  In fact, she only had one tiny comment, and that was to explain what some initials meant - that was an easy fix that took all of ten seconds.  So, my favorite kind of call to get.

I was hoping that today would be a day of doing nothing, but nothing doing.  I've got a union board meeting to go to.  I don't think it'll last too long, so that's good.

Well, the union meeting only lasted about 50 minutes and we got some good work done...a few decisions were decided and other stuff was discussed, then we all left.  I was going to go home, but I called my friend Margo to see if she wanted to get something to eat because I was starving (almost), and she lived fairly close to where the union meeting was held, so it wouldn't be a long drive for either of us.

We decided to go to Olive Garden.  We both had the create your own Italian dinner for only $10.99 each.  I got the angel hair pasta with Asiago Garlic Alfredo sauce.  We both had the salad and breadsticks for the first course, and the Dark Chocolate Caramel Cream for dessert.  My diet Coke was extra, and I added grilled chicken to my pasta (which wasn't worth the price).  But otherwise the main course wasn't too bad.  I don't know if I'll have the angel pasta again, but I took half of it home, so I'm looking forward to that.

Then, I came home and started to balance my checkbook.  It's been almost three, count 'em, THREE months since I did it! What was I waiting for??  I would check my balance on-line to make sure I'm not spending too much, but I really also need to make sure that there aren't any charges that shouldn't be there.  At this point, I'm still entering the receipt amounts into my Excel spreadsheet check register, so it's slow going.  We'll see what happens when I'm done with that and compare it to what my on-line account shows.

It's live across the country.  It's being rebroadcast at 8:00 pm, so it'll be on twice in a row.

Listening to a little Mussorgsky - very exotic and I like this a lot better than Rimsky-Korsakov.

WHEW!!  My checkbook balanced exactly!

I would've thought that I might have made some typos or other assorted mistakes because of how much I had to enter in this one session or because it was a long time since I had balanced it the last time, but when I finished entering everything (and saving my file) and then deleting the items that haven't cleared yet, it was exactly correct!

While balancing my checkbook, I listened to a couple of classical CDs that I got from the library:  Durufle: Requiem, Mass-Con Jubilo, Motets, and Mennin: Moby Dick; Symphonies Nos. 3 & 7.

"Moby Dick" was recorded with the Seattle Symphony, conducted by Gerard Schwartz.  He was pretty famous around these parts.  Both CDs were very good...in my opinion of limited knowledge.
