I'm up, I'm up - just under eight hours of sleep.  It rained all evening and is raining now.  Funnily, after all the bitching and moaning about the endless drought, I have not read one thing about how helpful and nice it is that we've had rain like this on and off for the last month.

I certainly have.

Today is our first orchestra reading of the orchestrations done so far for The New Yorkers. We'll have 27 or 28 in today's orchestra.  I hope that it all goes well.

This was in front of one of the food stations:

Hmmm, was it in front of a shrimp food station?

I don't know what it was in front of, because I'm not a fan of seafood, but the sculpture is of a geoduck (pronounced "GOO-ee-DUCK")!

Thinking it might be an odd shaped shrimp next to the shrimp wasn't such a bad guess.  Maybe the food station was clams instead ;)

DR Elmore, is Russ Rizner playing French horn in the New Yorkers orchestra?

There is no French horn in the orchestra.

Geo duck is a large saltwater edible clam......so says Google.

Geoducks feature prominently in Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I.

And I am home from the reading.  Everyone seemed pleased.  I have some things to redo and/or reconsider, but I wasn't fired, and I actually liked a few things I had written.

Back from a semi-horrid lunch at Du-Par's because when it rains the entirety of Studio City HAS to go to Jerry's - at 11:50 - unbelievable and not helped by the completely full parking lot thanks to a film crew taking the entirety of the bowling alley lot.  I probably could have gotten into Jerry's had I actually been able to park.

The little Caesar salad at Du-par's is very consistently good.  The mac-and-cheese must be their comedy entree.  It is completely different every time I have it - but today was the first time the noodles were not actually macaroni noodles but KRAFT0-shaped noodles, which I have no doubt they were.  It was so thin and disgusting I could have swum in it.  Mac and cheese should not be thin.  I ate less than half of it.

Prior to that, I futzed and finessed quite a bit and wrote two new pages.

It POURED here last night. The rain woke me about 2:30 and I had trouble going back to sleep. I had a hair appointment this morning and came straight home. I now just want to sleep.

The rain is abating, which is a good thing, because many of the streets are flooding. We need a break from it.

Bruce, the snowpack in the Sierras is now close to normal as a result of the rain. That's the leading indicator of how we're doing droughtwise.

Thursday afternoon greetings!  I am still in my robe and slippers but have gotten a great start getting Christmas decorations put away.

1.  Thank goodness I was in the mood to do this the day after Christmas in SC.
2.  Thank goodness (2) I did not have any to take down/put away when I returned to CA.

I've written about six-and-a-half pages so far, finished the current chapter, and written the beginning of the next.  So, four-and-a-half pages to go, which I'll get back to in a while after I take a little break.  I believe by the end of this evening I will be more than halfway through the book, which is pretty good for twelve days.

Me, what did I accomplish today?

Well, I got three out of six Little Mermaid audition song excerpts recorded.  Went to the store for a few things.  And I shall spend the evening watching a thing or two.

That's not much to write home about.

Of course you weren't fired. But I'm really pleased to read that you liked some of your work. I have to have a great distance before I can do that.
