I had a very bad night. The Benedryl didn't work and I really didn't sleep. I have a mild headache and am feeling foggy.

Just got some good news. The biopsy results show that whatever's is growing on my thyroid is not cancer. What it is they still don't seem to know.

I could not fall asleep after watching that crazy Oscar mishap.

Was it Warren Beatty's fault?  Not really.

But I'm sorry. He saw that he got the wrong card. It clearly said "Best Actress Emma Stone".  I get that he was in shock. But he should have immediately said that he had received the wrong card. Then all of this mix-up could have been avoided.  What a mess.

I've reviewed the highlights and lowlights of the broadcast, using last night's comments and BK's notes as a guide.

For some reason, I don't find an unedited clip in HD of the Best Picture fiasco, just one that looks like VHS quality and seems to be missing part of the picture.  Weird.  I'll look around later for a better one because I do want to examine it more closely.

Monologue was indeed good, and I liked the tourists sequence.  Checked out some of the gowns and hairdos and was pleased to see they got Medusa to show up.

What else?  I forget.  Might catch a few additional things later.

TOD:
We didn't watch, but Mark and I were at a new Mexican restaurant where they were showing the Oscars on a big screen above their bar with the sound OFF. We arrived just in time to see best actor and actress and then best picture. So, I'm eating my food and not really paying that much attention and I'm trying to talk to Mark, but I could tell he's not listening. He's intently watching the screen and he looks very confused because the sound is off, but he could tell that something really strange happened. He says, "There was a bunch of people up there for La La Land, but now those people are gone, and there's a whole different cast of people of up there." We saw the close-up of the "Midnight" card and didn't really understand why they were showing it. With the sound off, it was extra confusing.

I recorded, and flipped back and forth between Oscars and "The Big Bang Theory" re-runs on TNT (still a hoot to watch even after one or more viewings).

The necrology wasn't bad.  Was moved by Jennifer Anniston's sincere grief over Bill Paxton's death.

The necrology is supposedly about deaths in the previous year (i.e. 2016), so Paxton was not eligible for inclusion.  But Debbie and Carrie were the final two...and both died in 2017.  Since this segment is pre-produced, I feel sure they would have included Paxton had there been time.

I'm happy for Viola Davis.   I was amazed at the look on Denzel's face when Casey Affleck's name was called as Best Actor.  Denzel looked dazed and, then, pissed.

This was almost a repeat of the awards for 1972.  "Cabaret" won 8 awards (Actress, Supporting Actor, Director, Cinematography, Art Direction, Music Adaptation, Editing and Sound) , but not Best Picture.  "The Godfather" won three: Picture, Actor, Screenplay.  This year, "La-La Land" won 6 awards.  "Moonlight" won three: Picture, Supporting Actor, Screenplay.

Quick:  Name a film that won only ONE Oscar and it was for Best Picture (or, at the time, "Outstanding Production").

He's downstairs painting the baseboards and I have to crawl into the vanity cupboards to clean them out.  They're going to put a piece of the vinyl into the cupboard under the sink, which will be nicer that the grungy surface that's in there now.

T.O.D.

Aside from the unbelievable ending, my favorite part of the show was when the tourists came through.  That was real.

That was pretty funny!
