There's only one way a recording of The New Yorkers can happen with today's labels - Mr. Viertel and Encores will pay for it, or they will find the funding for it.

It hasn't been - it's so firmly set in the 70s I'm not sure it would work today - LACC asked me about doing it there again, but until I figure out if I should update or not, I don't do anything with it.  After the first two productions, I licensed it out several times.

I hope that you  decide and there is a production someday

John G, you were able to bring the tarts on the plane? (Maybe you bribed the crew with their own.)

Or is there some leg-pulling going on?

No there were genuine Texas  almond fig tarts home baked by John G baker extrodinaire imported from the great state of Texas, with Texas grown figs!  I think that only liquids are prohibited on domestic flights

FFAD:
I was wondering if any of you could help me with a little project I'm working on. I need a list of songs from musicals that are about greed; and even better, about people behaving deceptively in the name of greed; like songs about con artists. But really, songs about greed in general would be good. Thanks!

One of my favorites is The Sound of Money from I Can Get It for You Wholesale, which has a couple of other greed songs in it.

It's been a full day. Dropped on a Mass at a Catholic Church, thinking I'd be able to avoid praise team music, which irritates my last nerve and makes me think uncharitable and unchristian thoughts. Naturally that's what the music was. I tried to ignore it.

Caught up with one of my best friends from college and a mutual friend we had worked with 25 years ago. Good times and good food at Rue 57.

Went to TKTS and discovered A Bronx Tale has added a Sunday evening performance, so I'm headed there in a few. You know me, I never miss a Robert De Niro musical.

I'm glad everyone liked the tarts. I guess that was more in keeping with The New Yorkers and those single entendres than I realized.

Jeanne, I don't know if I got them on the plane OK because the jam had been baked or not. But it wasn't a problem. Perhaps if I had had a jar of the jam with me it would have been a different matter.

Just saw this in the National Review:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/446097/new-yorkers-musical-outstanding

"Under the baton of conductor Rob Berman, the 30-piece Encores! orchestra is right on stage throughout all the action. It beautifully performs Porter’s sophisticated melodies and lush, new arrangements by Josh Clayton and Larry Moore. These musicians are full of surprises, as just the right sound from a bell, triangle, or trombone, at just the right time, elicits fresh titters.

This is a splashy entertainment for fans of musical comedy and the Great American Songbook and anyone who happens to like New York."

You lucky people who were able to go.

Anyway, the  manager finally arrived in about 5 minutes and said that the stage was set up in such a way that the tickets we had were now partial view so she had better seats for us

You were lucky ;D

DR AMY - among my favorite such songs, if not my favorite is PITIFUL PENNILESS BUMS from SUGAR.

And there is always:

Easy Street - Annie
It's A Simple Little System - Bells Are Ringing
Sitting Pretty - Cabaret
Take a Letter Miss Jones - Blood Brothers

The music sparkled like a French 75, champagne with a touch of gin in it.

Wow. Couldn't be any ravier.

I would love to see it. I certainly hope there's a CD coming.

DR Jeanne, we are all hoping there will be a recording.  With Paint Your Wagon, we closed in March and recorded in June or July when the funding was in place.  I'm hoping, if a recording occurs, that it happens sooner.  Fingers are crossed!

The first time TLT did GYPSY, Sharry played Gypsy Rose Lee.  The next time they produced the show, Sharry played Mama Rose.  So, it is kind of fitting that she would make an appearance in this production, even if only for one performance.

That's pretty cool!

I agree.

It's a lovely day today, so whatever you've got to do, you've got a lovely day to do it in, that's true.

Here in Tumwater, it's been raining since before I woke up.  But since I love the rain, it IS a lovely day today! ;D

Go walk an hour or two in it, day after day after day, and then tell me if you still love it ;)

Today I saw The Glass Menagerie.  It's surely a bare-bones production.  The set consists of a long table, like something you would play cards on; 4 chairs and a Victrola on the floor.

Joe Mantello plays a character in his early twenties and he's in his fifties.

Earlier my friend Todd and I went to Sardis for lunch.  I recalled that the first time I went there was in 1969.  My mother, brother and sister (Kate) went to NYC for a few days.  Kate asked for a souvenir menu.  Somehow I have it.  It's fun to see the prices.  I'll have to look for it and give some examples.
