Only because a major thunderstorm just rolled in.

I just read the headline regarding the storm and wondered if you experienced any of it.

The record store was on 3rd about three blocks east of La Cienaga, maybe four, south side of the street in a little strip mall, owned by a Frenchman named Renee - a soundtrack store, basically.

Boy, I guess that's one I missed.  I wonder how, because that was my year for really getting around to a lot of them.

I think one of my favorite Mexican jernts, El Carmen, was in that stretch of 3rd.

On Beverly Blvd., also just east of La Cienega, north side of the street, I seem to recall one specializing in opera.  Maybe all things opera, not just recordings.  Am I imagining that one?  Aron's ruled in that part of town, and there were a couple of other stores on Melrose where I scored a few things.  And the guy on Highland, but I'm not sure I ever bought anything from him.

I'm subbing on Keyboard 2 in a few performances of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR in April, and they seem to be following the style of the original "Brown Album"... which is fine with me because after all these years I still know that better than its various incarnations.  (They're just using five musicians.)  So I just put it on to listen, and while almost every bar was familiar, I was appalled at how unsatisfying a recording it is.  This is a flawless original pressing LP, but man, did I ever have a distorted memory of the sound.  I remembered there being a few edits/splices on it that would alarm a horse, but the overall sound is thin and shallow, especially when things get layered and complex.  So...

Asking BK or anyone who might know:  Before I go looking around, was this ever remastered in a good way?  If not, is it a candidate for a proper treatment?  Original booklet says 16 tracks...

In the south, ladies would use it sparingly when directing guests who might need to use the facilities.

A neighbor lady, inviting me to enjoy their pool as her son's friend, turned to me and said, "No tinkling in the pool."

I knew what she meant, but wondered at why she felt she needed to say it to me.

My auditions are April 9 & 10........so OF COURSE - Indiana State Road 240 which I take into Greencastle every day.....will have paving work beginning on April 3 and continuing until September 29.....even though the same road was closed last year for BRIDGE WORK.....  I am hoping there will be restrictions instead of closing.....because usually the crews are gone by 6 p.m. when I drive there.....time will tell.

They couldn't pave at the same time?

Wednesday afternoon greetings!  We checked out of our hotel, left our suitcases with the bellman, and went to 42nd Street for a 10:30 showing of HIDDEN FIGURES, which we both liked a lot.  Just finished lunch at the Brooklyn Diner Times Square location and now we're hanging out in the 8th floor lobby of the Marriott Marquis.  In about an hour we'll retrieve our bags and head for the airport.

No libation this time, DR ChasSmith, just loitering and using the wi-fi.  Thanks for the travel vibes!

Kritzerland is proud to present a world premiere CD release:

JULES VERNE’S ROCKET TO THE MOON

Composed and Conducted by John Scott

The 1960s brought us a whole slew of period comedy adventure films like The Great Race, Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, and Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies – movies with all-star casts, lots of slapstick comedy, and filled with all manner of heroes, villains, and eccentric characters.  Two years after Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines had its successful run, Jules Verne’s Rocket to the Moon hit movie screens in the UK.  This time the all-star cast included Burl Ives, Terry-Thomas, Dennis Price, Troy Donahue, Gert Frobe, Hermione Gingold, and Lionel Jeffries.  The film is handsomely photographed in scope and color, and has a lot of top-notch production values.  And it’s graced with a truly wonderful and tuneful score by John Scott (billed as Patrick John Scott).

By the time of Rocket to the Moon, the word-of-mouth on John Scott’s film scoring abilities was spreading, and director Don Sharp hired him to do the score – that began a fruitful director/composer relationship that continued for several years.  For Rocket to the Moon, Scott came up with a tuneful, eclectic, and wonderful score – the main theme is so infectiously melodic that it’s hard to get it out of your head once you’ve heard it.

Rocket to the Moon was released on LP in the UK – this is its CD debut.  John Scott’s music has delighted and touched audiences all over the world, and it’s enlivened and enhanced a whole slew of movies, including Antony and Cleopatra, England Made Me, Billy Two Hats, a whole series of Jacques Cousteau specials, North Dallas Forty, The Final Countdown, Where Eagles Fly, Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Harem, The Shooting Party, King Kong Lives, Man on Fire, Black Rainbow, Shoot to Kill, Becoming Collette, The Whistle Blower, and many, many others.  No matter what the genre, his scores are filled with wonderful themes, running the gamut from drama to comedy to romance, to adventure, thrills, and suspense, or whatever else the films might have called for.

Jules Verne’s Rocket to the Moon is limited to 1000 copies only and is priced at $19.98, plus shipping.

CDs will ship by the second week of May, but we’ve actually been averaging three to five weeks early in terms of shipping ahead of the official ship date.  To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

I just listened to the samples and they're great!  I can't wait to hear this one!

DR Vixmom I read this on fb:

Re April the pregnant giraffe: ""We will not confirm active labor, but we do have discharge that would suggest the count down to calf has begun! Mammary development is on point.... We will keep everyone posted throughout the day with developments. Our team and Vet are on standby. We could be hours away or days - so do not stop your day - but certainly don't stop watching!"
