And on that note (C#), I'm leaving and going to my sister's house.  I need to bring my niece the birthday present that she asked me to buy for her.  I forgot to bring it to my parents' house yesterday, so I'm bringing to her house now.

Be back later.

I spoke with my Cousin Debra this past Thursday evening.

Please don't alert the media.  This revelation is only for your eyes.

Debra is an RN in charge of a medical group in South Carolina.  We were talking "family health issues" and she told me about something that has done wonders for her husband who has heart issues and diabetes 2.

She said that some recent lab results were so startlingly "normal" that she and his doctors thought a mix-up had happened.  So they did the labs again and the results were the same.  His triglycerides were well within normal parameters, his A1C was low and normal and his blood sugars were normal.

To what did she attribute this?

He had begun craving dill pickles and pickle juice.  That had turned the tide for him, except for the hypertension all the salt induced.  How did he handle that?

He began taking a tbsp. of Bragg's Vinegar every day.  The results have remained steady.  She said this vinegar (Bragg's organic raw apple cideer) is the new wonder tonic for diabetics.

Since it's not going to hurt me any, I'm going to start doing this today.

Thank you for sharing this

On a visit to my Wife of First Cousin Once Removed and her family in West Virginia several years ago, they had a sort of potluck lunch and someone brought these potatoes with the corn flakes.  I'd never had it, and at first couldn't put my finger on exactly what the dish consisted of, but it was quite yummy in an interesting way.  I got their recipe, and what they'd always called it was Company Potatoes.  It's quite the down home comfort dish, which I'd been associating ever since with West Virginia but obviously it's quite widespread.  I'd never come across it by either name.

This took three tries to get straight... I read this as you having a secret wife you removed to  West Virginia

I am truly sorry to say that events have conspired to prevent me joining the DR Matthew Meet and greet.

DR Vixmom, what exactly is peeling a mushroom?  I sometimes cut off the stem. And I chop/dice/cut them. But I have never heard of peeling a mushroom.

I always peel my mushrooms as taught by my MIL.  I use a paring knife .

Went to the memorial service for my friend Kevin tonight. He was only 40, but he touched so many lives. There were about 500 people there. Very nice service at one of the Korean churches in town, which is where his father is an associate pastor. The choir sang Psalm 23 in Korean. A few friends and his brother spoke. Very life affirming -- and very sad.

Starting to watch something called Mrs. Bradley Mysteries, starring Diana Rigg as a rich sleuth who always manages to be around when murder is afoot. The series is set in the 1920s and the period look is wonderful. There's also a humorous streak, at least to the first story.

There are only six episodes but I think it'll be fun.

My niece thought they were either called Mormon Funeral Potatoes or Amish Funeral Potatoes.

I guess it is less offensive just to call them Funeral Potatoes.
