Jane, I once availed myself of the salon on a cruise ship. I'd seen my regular hairdresser a few days before and told him I was going on vacation and to cut my hair a tad shorter than usual. As so often happens, he didn't. A few days into the cruise my hair was just too long! I booked an appointment and went in. A very nice, young, Scottish woman, maybe six months out of beauty school, listened and understood. In those days I'd often get a dry trim on just the top between full cuts. She did exactly that and it worked perfectly. Relief!
I agree with you about European industrial design. The Europeans are often far ahead of us. More open-minded perhaps? They're more open to modern art, as well.
