I've canceled my trek to City Center.  Too hot, too humid, and I'm ot too enthusiastic about climbing the stairs once I return.

Smart.  Remember when we stayed in that 5th floor apartment and the elevator was out of commission?  We stayed out all day, and sometimes evening, to minimize upward trips.

Envious of DR Ginny enjoying Chicago.  In one year I grew to love that town more than I can say.

It's my second favorite American city, DR ChasSmith.  New York is first, of course.

Oh man.  Fifth floor walkups are brutal for those not used to them.  Several friends in the city (who, it just happens, I haven't visited in a long time! :) ) are in 5th floor walkups, and I'd invariably be bringing something to them, so carrying stuff made it even worse.  Another couple of friends had these loft walkups in Tribeca or Soho, with one l-o-n-g staircase that seemed like forever.  In truth, those were probably no worse than the one at the Jerry Orbach Theatre which didn't bother me at all, but I wasn't used to these way back then.

To amuse myself, I just imagined -- for one brief shining moment -- DR Elmore receiving file cabinets in a 3rd floor apt with no elevator.  :D

No sirree.  :)

Oh -- apropos of nothing (I just happened to glance at my wastebasket with the wrapper in it) --

Someone had given me a gift-size Claxton Fruit Cake which I finally got to a couple of days ago.  DELICIOUS.  I don't know Claxton from a hole in the ground and I have no idea how a hardcore fruit cake aficionado would rank these, but for my taste, this had the mix of ingredients and the texture I LOVE.

Just sayin'.  Okay, back to no-elevator walkups.

I had college friends who, when they moved to NYC, lived in a fifth floor walkup on Sullivan Street, about a block from the original off-Broadway Fantasticks.  I stayed with them for a weekend around 1970 or5 1971.  It was a killer.

DR John G, I learned about Modjeskas (alternate spelling) when My book group read Susan Sontag's novel In America.  I bought some at Cracker Barrel and took them to our meeting.  Your Mother's sound divine!

They were heavenly. She hasn't made them in years. I can't remember if her recipe is in her cookbook or not.

DR TCB, I looked up Tacoma Park and found Takoma Park in Maryland. It seems to be a nice neighborhood. DR Kevin are you familiar with it?

Another night of not sleeping due to a mild migraine. This is getting tiresome. I need to be alert tonight as we are meeting friends for dinner. They are vacationing from England in the other Vancouver.

I'm up, I'm up - seven-and-a-half hours of sleep, I suppose, although my allergies kept me up a bit, despite having taken an allergy pill.

I think I got 2 hours of sleep. I still have my migraine. At least it is very mild at this point.

The 40's station on Sirius Radio is helping.

I took advantage of the elevator working to run to the market. God alone knows how long it will be working.

I have lived in a one story house for 45 years....I don't know from stairs and/or elevators.

My condo, in which I've lived now for 10 1/2 years, has two sets of stairs.  And they're not high (tall) sets of stairs, so they're quite manageable, even when I have to go up and down them several times.
