It was not funny. I saw a community theater production of A Little Night Music and the Petra forgot the lyrics to the Miller's Son. She stood there with her head down and swayed a little while the music continued through the last two verses.

That sounds devastating.

But it brings back the ridiculous time in the middle of our run of Avenue Q when Kate just couldn't get herself started at the beginning of "The Internet is for Porn" and we vamped for about an hour.

I remember a Middletown Symphony Orchestra concert in which the piano soloist lost her place and the conductor kept shouting measure numbers to try to get her back on track.  She finally dropped her hands to her lap and just shook her head.

Pat Sebald, such a nice lady.  Don't remember the concerto, though.

I lost it about five bars into the first Bach Two-Part Invention at a high school state contest or something, and made stuff up till I could find my way to the last bar and finish it.  They actually gave me a good score for how I handled it.

Lordy.  I haven't thought about that in years, and it still makes me want to run away and hide under a rock.  :)

In other news, have I mentioned that there will be no ALA conferences for me in 2018?  My board obligation to the Retired Member Roundtable is complete and I prefer not to go to Denver in early February and New Orleans in late June.  If they were reversed, maybe...

TOD:
During a performance of "I Love My Wife", Vickie Lewis came out on stage with the back of her long gown completely unzipped. Then, she had to do a big dance number that way - trying to keep her dress on and still dance at the same time. I really felt sorry for her.
During a performance of "A Little Night Music", Stephanie Zimbalist accidentally broke a small wine glass on stage and then she and Frederick (who were both barefoot) had to tip-toe around the glass for the rest of the scene - I guess that wasn't particularly funny either.

I saw a benefit show in Palm Springs where the singer kept forgetting lyrics to the Miller's Son and she would just babble and make funny noises during the lines she couldn't remember. It was painful.

I am surprised you won't be going.  Denver in February might have better weather than at home though flying then can be problematic.

Hope all is well.  We are all well here.  The boys were just picked up for camp.  I have stuff to do.  I really should have stayed home this summer instead of working,  Maybe next summer?

I'm up, I'm up - I'm thinking ten hours of sleep - maybe a bit more, but I was up for about thirty minutes in the middle of the night, coughing like mad.

I don't know that I've seen any really funny mishaps live onstage.  Scary ones, yes, scenery malfunctions; but I guess that's not what the TOD is about.

We saw JEKYLL & HYDE on tour.....and the actress playing Lucy was singing "Someone Like You" and got to stylin' and profilin' and lost her place, the conductor tried to get her back on track.....and keep the orchestra going....but it was a lost cause....she stopped singing and ran offstage....

Mostly I remember that musical because for most of the night, when the conductor raised his baton all I could think was "I don't want to hear this character sing a song....I don't care what this character thinks....I don't have time for this....."

I am enjoying a peanut putter and apricot jam sandwich on rye bread from Factor's.  The bread is such a delicious treat.  Bruce & Jeanne I am glad we went there for dinner.

My friend who had to evacuate yesterday still has her house and business.  She is not out of danger.  This photo is 100 yards from her.

I was doing a musical revue of songs that won a best song Oscar and was supposed to be singing "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head.  I say supposed to be because I totally went up on the lyrics right at the start of the song!  I couldn't even think of the first word!  The accompanist/music director was NO help.  I looked back and he just kept vamping and didn't even give me the first couple of words.  Eventually, I started singing, but I started on the second verse.  Fortunately, I got through that and then had the presence of mind to sing the first verse next, and then the final verse.  The audience gave me very sympathetic applause.  I can say that my other songs went well.
