Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in mono, and now it is time for you to post until the mono cows come home.

Good night, Tom.  Today, I want to get to work early, so I need to get to sleep early.

Have a good day, all!

TOD

I've been watching various documentaries on the gay movement pre and post Stonewall and the AIDS crisis including documentaries on key figures such as Larry Kramer and Vito Russo. It's been fascinating to watch. Sadly so many of the people who were on the frontline are now dead, but amazingly it was well documented especially the AIDS battle. The interviews with people, the protests and the meetings of various advocacy groups are fascinating to watch. I lived through it living in Canada and losing some friends, but not to the extent of what was happening in NYC and San Francisco.

Sheesh, another dark rainy Friday.

And yet, an oddly comforting one.  Sometimes I like days like this.

TOD:

Very little, actually.  The past few days have been filled with other things, I've got a very busy day today and a busy weekend ahead of me, and then a busy Monday as we get together for our read-through and first rehearsal of I Do! I Do!

A long dream about Dion Boucicault's comedy London Assurance.  Why?

Love the mono notes.  We didn't have a stereo till 1961 when my mom and dad bought a Sears Silvertone console.  Even back in the day that probably wasn't a very good one, and I eventually became envious of those families with the fancier Zeniths or Scotts or Fishers, but it was luxurious compared to anything we'd had before.  Concurrent with buying that, my dad joined the Columbia Record Club, and the Mitch Miller sound rings in my head to this day.  Let's see...  Mitch Miller, Andy Williams, I don't remember what else until a year or so later when we got the South Pacific cast album (gatefold release) which I played to death, and which started me off on insisting they order other shows.

Today I have to be at Frank Loesser Enterprises at noon.  I look forward to seeing friends there, but I hate the jaunt to get there there, especially since it's a long walk, no matter where I get off the bus, in 80 degree temps.

I hope we can finish up Guys & Dolls today.

Today I got two pages of corrections to the Backbeard vocal score.  Why this could not have been accomplished months ago before the show went back in to rehearsal is beyond me.

I'm thinking about beginning a music preparation class for musical theatre amateurs.

Tomorrow morning, the first library book sale (of the ones I attend) of the season.  Again, I'm not going to get there at dawn's crack with the dealers to be one of the first in line.  I'll go in at nine when they open to the public.  Life is too busy right now to be any more adventurous than that.

T.O.D.

Last night, we watched the new Blu-Ray of NIGHT PEOPLE (1954) from Kino Lorber.

I've always liked that Gregory Peck/Broderick Crawford Cold War thriller, and the new 4K restoration looks terrific.

No idea what we might watch this weekend.

Friday morning greetings!  Richard is on his cell phone dealing with his bank and I've been on my phone all morning trying to return a call from Mom's caregivers (non emergency) and we're both caught up in automated messaging systems, etc.  I finally got through to Mom's nurse and dealt with the issue at hand and now I'm trying to bring my blood pressure back down for this afternoon's cardiologist check-up (routine).

TOD:

I started watching I Am Curious Yellow, which I haven't seen before. Interesting how timely its discussion of women's equality is all these years later. Hope to finish it and it's parallel film, I Am Curious Blue.

Also hopeful to get further into the last volume of Proust. Only 170 pages to go.

TOD - my listening is an audiobook:  Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok.  The narrator, whose name I don't know, does a great job with the Chinese accents.  The story is told by a young Chinese immigrant girl who imitates her Brooklyn neighbors very well.

This is the July selection for one of my book groups that meets next Wednesday noon.  Have to knit and color a lot in the next several days in order to finish it!

Waiting at the doctor. They want to do an ultrasound. I suspect it's a kidney stone.
