Most people lasted a little less than a couple of hours, and then Kyle (who plays Wilbur) wanted to go out for a drink (we got to the hotel's banquet room after the bar closed).  I didn't mind staying out a little longer and neither did Diane (the woman who plays the Matron, et al.), so we went along.  We went to a local bar and I had a diet Coke (BK's favorite) with lime (delish!), and they had beers.  We chatted for another couple of hours(!) and had a really nice time.  I then came home, checked up on e-mails and things, and went to sleep.  Now, I'm at work.

Perhaps he is still enjoying the deli-style dinner after the show.

That was part of it!

I hope the show was good for DR GEORGE as was the deli style dinner afterwards for $15.

The show was, but the deli (buffet) wasn't.  The atmosphere at the buffet was good, though.

I've done 3 radio shows this week to talk about my new novel, JACKIE GOES TO DIXIE, and I'm already booked for 2 more next week.

The one question that the interviewers always ask is: "During your years as a Hollywood publicist, you represented many famous comedians (e.g. Jack Carter, Jackie Vernon, Stanley Myron Handleman, etc.) and you knew several others (e.g. Don Rickles, etc.).  Which one is your central character, Jackie Moss?"

My answer: "None of them.  Jackie Moss is an original character, but he would not exist if I hadn't known them."

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1629331686

Congrats on the interviews, Druxy!

T.O.D.

I'm currently reading a biography of Peter O'Toole, so we'll probably watch THE STUNT MAN and, possibly, MY FAVORITE YEAR, this weekend.

And, if we're not O'Toole'd out: THE LION IN WINTER.

Oddly enough, I've never seen My Favorite Year.  But as long as I'm lauding Criterion, those others are two I wish were in their hands.

I LOVE My Favorite Year!  I even like the score to the musical. :D

Happy Bastille Day, y'all.

Somehow, I don't think the cafeteria is having French food for lunch. Probably not even French dressing for a salad.

Is French dressing really French?

A vinaigrette with mustard in addition to the oil, vinegar, salt and pepper is. Not that orange-y sweet stuff.

The real stuff, now the horrid American version :)

I recognize two of the signatures - director and composer....but I can't make out the other two.......

The other two are actresses Dominque Swain (the realllllllly long one) and Cindy Lucas.

Eating my Freshly lunch - ziti and meatballs - pretty good.  Then it's the run-through, then a visit with Grant, then picking up packages, then cleaning up a murder scene, then who knows.

These days I am not reading anything as heavy/challenging as Proust.  I began reading SECRETS OF A CHARMED LIFE.  It takes place in England jumping between the present and WW2.

I'm currently reading "First Lord's Fury," book 6 of 6 in the CODEX ALERA series by Jim Butcher while patiently waiting for the latest Dresden Files book to become available again from OverDrive.  I was reading that when I lost my previous Kindle. :P

Hold the phone!  Stop the presses!
From Wiki...

Double meaning of the term "Flexatone"
In contemporary music of the 20th century between around 1920 and 1970 the term "Flexatone" has been used on one hand for the instrument flexatone, on the other hand for the musical saw. Composers who used it for the musical saw were: Arthur Honegger (Short opera Antigone, 1924/1927),[13][14][15] Ernst Krenek (opera Jonny spielt auf, 1927),[16][citation needed] Dmitri Shostakovich (The Nose (1929),[17][18][19] Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District (1934), and film music for The New Babylon (1929)), Aram Khachaturian (Piano Concerto 1936),[17][20][21] and Hans Werner Henze (opera Elegy for young lovers, 1961).[22]

"Perhaps the most famous example is probably still Khachaturian's Piano Concerto (1946)...However, when Khachaturyan came to the London Symphony Orchestra in the early 1970s he immediately ruled out the flexatone on sight, before a note had been played, and wanted a musical saw or nothing! Just how the flexatone came to appear in the score in the first place remains a complete mystery."

There's a new film version of the novel that the opera Lady Macbeth From ... is based on.

I wonder if any flexatone is used on the soundtrack.

I went for a nice swim this morning.  More often than not I have the pool to myself.  Last time I had to share it but at least the other person was an adult doing laps as well.  This morning it was all mine again :)

I haven't swam since the summer pool opened. But I have done aqua fitness quite a few times.

If this link doesn't start the video at the beginning, just move it back there.

Here's the composer himself conducting the piano concerto with the Moscow Symphony in 1972.

(Sadly, no flexatone!)

I worked on "It Was Good to Be Me" today, and I'll get back to it in a minute.  I need to layout the keyboard part.
