Yes, it looks like a Currier & Ives' postcard, doesn't it?

Panni, GOOD, NO RAT VIBES!

JMK wasn’t BEN a hit at the time.  I think no one had the courage to play the song.  That was one scary movie.

May I jiiginalate for a few seconds, please?

Well, I've been working in the hotel business for hardly 10 years now -- it's not really my trade -- but I keep wondering what customers -- and I mean people from any horizon, culture and upbringing -- get from letting everything on (TV, lights) when they leave their room?
I know they think that, anyhow, they're paying for that... but don't they have the common sense approach of not wasting electricity?
That just gets me!
I know, I'm showing my age...

... and yes, it's illegal here too (France) to drive and use a phone, but people keep doing it, and people have accidents, and people die and.... the law is rarely reinforced... so

big kids with toys are what people are when it comes to modern living...

Besides it's proven that, to drive, one needs both ears because we guide ourselves with our ears too!

Anyway, as some DR here and I often say.... "Its so hard to live in such an imperfect world when one is so perfect!" <sight>

LOL!

I have a question, DRs. (It's a technical thing for a script.) If a person were driving on a highway from one place in Iowa to another place in Iowa, would one refer to driving on the "Interstate"...? This may seem like an odd question, but I hate to get things like this wrong (it's just in the Stage Directions) - and I don't know much about the proper references when it comes Interstate and Freeway, et al.
Thanks in advance.
I've driven quite a bit in Iowa, and I have heard people say both "the Interstate" as well as "the freeway", but, even more commonly, "I80", or "the 20", or whatever particular number they were going to use.

The Lovely Wife and I are about to depart in this grim-grey, drizzling crap to go and see the Lemony Snickett film.  It better be worth it.  Yuck!  I just want to curl back in my warm bed and read or sleep.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but....  :)

It may make the real gray and drizzling crap seem scintillating by comparison.

Panni, my first reaction was freeway or highway, since you were not traveling across a state line.  I asked Keith and he said, east coast would be highway.  They question is what does someone in Iowa say-our guess highway.

What do they say in Iowa???

Something like this!
(With or without a cell-phone!)

All I Owe Ioway

Marty:
I can hear 'em callin' hogs in the clear Ioway air,
I can sniff the fragrant whiff of an Ioway rose!
Chorus:
You've got Ioway in your heart!
Marty:
I've got Ioway in my hair!
I've got Ioway in my ears and eyes and nose!
Oh, I know all I owe I owe Ioway,
I owe Ioway all I owe and I know why.
I am Ioway born and bred,
And on Ioway corn I'm fed,
Not to mention her barley, wheat, and rye!
Marty and Chorus:
I owe Ioway for her ham and her beef and her lamb,
And her strawberry jam, and her pie!
Marty:
I owe Ioway more than I can ever pay,
So I think I'll move to Californi-a!
Chorus:
What a shame!
Emily:
What a shame! (What a shame!)
What a shame! (What a shame!)
Chorus:
You'll be good and gosh-darn sorry when you go.
Man:
Don't I know!
Emily:
When you leave your native state,
You'll be feelin' far from great!
You'll be good and gosh-darn sorry when you go!
Marty:
I'm a seed of Ioway grain.
Emily:
You're a breeze that Ioway blue. (?)
Marty:
I'm a drop of Ioway rain!
Emily and Chorus:
You're a drip of Ioway dew!
Emily:
Oh, I know all I owe I owe Ioway.
I owe Ioway all I owe and I know why.
I am Ioway born and bred,
And on Ioway corn I'm fed,
Not to mention her barley, wheat and rye!
I owe Ioway for her ham and her beef
And her lamb, and her --
Heppenstahl:
Strawberry jam!
Melissa:
...and her pie!
Heppenstahl:
I owe Ioway more than anyone should owe,
So I think I'll start in owin' Idaho!
Emily:
All together!
All (and Hepp. backing):
What a shame! (What a shame!)
What a shame! (What a shame!)
You'll be cryin' like a baby when you go!
Heppenstahl:
Don't I know!
When I leave my native heath,
With my lip between my teeth,
I'll be bawlin' like a booby when I go!
Emily:
You're a seed of Ioway grain,
You're a breeze of Ioway blue. (?)
Abel (drunken):
I'm a drop of Ioway rain!
Melissa:
You're a drip of Ioway dew!

Panni, I posted before reading what JMK had to say.  Is anyone here from Iowa?

François the only place I don’t worry about leaving lights on is in Las Vegas, what’s the point.  I know what you mean.  It seems just about every work person who comes here leaves lights on.  I have also gone around when company was here and turned lights of behind them.  I have one friend who leaves the refrigerator open all the time.  She is a very good friend so I just yell at her.  ;)

Thank you, DRs. Highway it shall be.

Francois - You'll be glad to know that I always turn off the lights, etc. in a hotel room - leaving only one bedside light on (if it's night) so I won't come into a dark room.

For Dog Lovers - a wonderful Peanuts today.

Snoopy is in his writer mode, sitting on the roof of his dog house, pounding away at his typewriter.
Panel 1
He writes; "All his life he tried to be a good person..."

Panel 2
"Many times, however, he failed, for after all, he was only human."

Panel 3:
"He wasn't a dog."

I have a question.  Does anyone know an easy way to find information on an artist?  We have a painting, the first item we purchased as a couple for our first apartment.  It is of a beautiful Hindu, Indian woman.  Interestingly we noticed Penny has a painting by the same artist.  His or her name is Stephenson.  It looks like that anyway.  He/she painted in oil on acrylic or formica.  We purchased ours in 1969.  At the time we purchased it my grandfather, an art dealer, was familiar with the artist.  I can’t remember what he told us.  I think my grandfather said the artist was a he, and as I’m typing this I’m suddenly thinking he said the woman was the Stephenson’s wife.  For all I know the two glasses of wine I drank are enhancing my memory or just making it overly creative.

The point is, does anyone know how I might find this painter?  We have been unsuccessful in our attempts.

It might be that, since people are in the City of Lights.... like Vegas, I guess!

The rain just keeps comin'.  There has been so much rain in the last there days that we now have the phenomenon known as the pot hole occuring here and there.  The little side street that leads to Carny's and Staples and Jerry's and Bed and Bath is almost undriveable so littered with pot holes is it.

Staples and Jerry's?  Is that where they
sell edible frozen office supplies?

I am NOT surprised because I would not have thought you could be one of those....

Oh, people also do leave the light in bathrooms! (AND much more than that but we won't discuss -- disgust?! -- this!!!)
Now, I guess they must do the same at home!

François yes she does. ;D

Keith started laughing at me turning off all the lights in the hotel room in Vegas –“just look out the window”.  Even if you turn them off, if you are lucky enough to have your bed “turned down” and a candy placed on the pillow, then all of the lights will be on when you return to your room.

I have finished watching Der Frosche mit der Maske - it's one of the best of this series.  The series got a bit strange after the first couple of years, but The Frog with the Mask (or Fellowship of the Frog as it was called in the US) is pretty straightforward and, for a 1959 film, surprisingly violent.  I'll try Attack of the Mushroom People next but if it's not to my liking I may move on to something else.  But before I do anything else let me just
