Just like he attempted with "Can We Start Again, Please?" (am I remembering the title correctly?) in the film version of Superstar.  And we know how well that one turned out.

But that song was/is on the original Broadway cast album which came out in 1971.  The movie was released in 1973.

It seems as if it's only raining lightly now, so I'm gonna run out and get them Diet Cokes while the getting's good.

It's been in both productions I've worked on as well, DRGEORGE.

It was in the Broadway version, but IIRC (I seem to recall quite distinctly reading a NY Times article about it) ALW claimed he had written it for the film, which had already been optioned at that point (from the original, non-Broadway cast album, LOL).  He didn't succeed in convincing the Academy to give him a nomination.  That was the point of my post.  :)

Though, of course, he did succeed with that wretched song from Evita.   :P

I managed to get to the market and back in the extremely short window of light rain.  In fact, coming out of the market, there was no rain at all.  It's drizzling again now.

Actually, DRJMK, "Can We Start Again, Please" was written for the Broadway production.

JMK is correct, I didn't read the article either, but I checked my Concept JCS album and it's not there.

being an open forum and speaking of musicals ....

i watched the film version of "A Little Night Music" again the other day - despite all the criticism it received, I actually think it's much better than most so called critics made out.  I also believe Elizabeth Taylor gives one of her better (understated) performances.

I would be interested to read what anybody else may have to say about the film.

(I'm at work now so will check in now and then to see if there is any feedback about this.  Enjoy!)

At last, a topic.  Stage to film musicals.  And vice versa.

Re Little Night Music film.  I'm on the side that doesn't care for it all that much, but my reasons for that have to do with Mr. Harold Prince, who shows absolutely none of the affinity for magic that he does on the stage.  It's lumpenly directed and edited, and was obviously shot on a low budget (as these things go).  I do love the little girl's song, and Diana Rigg is very good.  I didn't mind Taylor either.

I'm listening to The Creature From the Black Lagoon music - it's SCARY.  More scary than the Mushroom People.  It is, once again, pouring rain.

BK, I have had to swear off Diet Coke.  The acid reflux just can't take it anymore.  Onto milder things like root beer.

Unique and universally unequalled, the "U" is ubiquitous.  A vacuum such as human understanding does not understand, and will understimate the unparalleled magnitutde of such an unrivalled character.

And if only I could provide some continuum (with minimal residuum), we could prove quite the duumvirate.

I don't know what I'd do if I had to swear off Diet Coke.  Certainly I'd swear.  And suffer terrible withdrawal.  Thankfully, I don't even know what acid reflux is, so I don't suffer from it knowingly.

Here's another topic. What's your favorite infomercial? Mine is a local one for a used car lot. It's called Credit Court and it's a cheesey take-off on those court TV shows.

I also like the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer infomercial and the TempurPedic Swedish sleep system infomercial.

You can tell I really appreciate the finer things in life, like a good infomercial.

I don't have anything else to say because there isn't anything else going on around here.

Yay!  Somebody else who didn't think Liz was totally unsuited for the film.  I agree that Ms Rigg was very good.  I remember not taking too much to the film when I first saw it, however I find I like it more each time I watch it.

JR- I saw your post yesterday. Thank you!

I also ventured out while the rains briefly stopped. Scored a multi-grain scone from Peets. Brought it home to read while I perused the paper. Scones and the paper are a good combo. I have plenty of Diet CHERRY Coke on hand (caps for DR Sandra of the Underpants).
For the delectation of all you Dear Readers, here is a lovely portrait of Miss Tallulah Bankhead (by James Bennett) from the cover of today's LA Times Book Review.

I used to love informercials - I used to watch them into the wee hours of the morning.  My favorites were for baldness - that stuff you sprayed on the top of your head and plant life grew immediately.  Before they were actually called infomercials, I used to like the one for Ginsu knives.  And, of course, for those who've read Benjamin Kritzer, you know that I, like him, loved and purchased the Chop-o-Matic.

A multi-grain scone.  There is just so much wrong with those four words.

Well, I guess the pundits won't be complaining about the drought anymore - or threatening higher water prices.  I believe that's why these occasional crazy rain things happen - because these peckerheads THREATEN us because of a non-existant drought.  I'd say that this rainfall has removed that threat for the next five years.

They're actually very good. Just a touch of sweetness, but not cloying and just the right amount of crunchiness. In fact, your very cousin considers them his favorite thing at Peets.

I have to decide which Criterion I'll watch first - a Seijun Suzuki film, or the French crime meller.  Decisions.  Or I could watch Intimate Strangers of Patrice Laconte.  Perhaps I'll start with that one - for some reason that seems like a rainy day movie.

Oh, my very cousin thinks that, does he?  I only do one grain at a time, baby.  Multi anything reeks of being too too.  And I have never been partial to scones, which, like Mr. Prince's filmmaking, seem lumpen and ill-designed.
