Well, BK, you win the synchronicity award again, because the commentary of The Creature Walks Among Us just mentioned that one of the bit players, Greg Campbell (am I remembering that right?) did a pilot for a tv version of Lil Abner, with none other than Marilyn Monroe as Daisy Mae.

For those feeling alone and cast off by the weather:

Quote
SHIPWRECKED

Ed finally decides to take a vacation. He books himself on a Caribbean cruiseand proceeds to have the time of his life -- until the boat sank.

He found himself swept up on the shore of an island with no other people, no supplies..Nothing. Only bananas and coconuts.

After about four months, he is lying on the beach one day when the most gorgeous woman he has ever seen rows up to him.

In disbelief, he asks her, "Where did you come from? How did you get here?"

"I rowed from the other side of the island," she says. "I landed here when my cruise ship sank."

"Amazing," he says. "You were really lucky to have a rowboat wash up with you."

"Oh, this?" replies the woman. "I made the rowboat out of raw material found on the island. The oars were whittled from gum tree branches; I wove the bottom from palm branches; and the sides and stern came from a Eucalyptus tree."

"But-but, that's impossible," stutters Ed. "You had no tools or hardware. How did you manage?"

"Oh, that was no problem," replies the woman. "On the south side of the island, there is a very unusual strata of alluvial rock exposed. I found if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into forgeable ductile iron. I used that for tools and used the tools to make the  hardware."

Ed is stunned. "Let's row over to my place," she says. After a few minutes of rowing, she docks the boat at a small wharf. As Ed looks onto shore, he nearly falls out of the boat.

Before him is a stone walk leading to an exquisite bungalow painted in blue and white.

While the woman ties up the rowboat with an expertly woven hemp rope, he could only stare ahead, dumb struck.

As they walk into the house, she says casually, "It's not much, but I call it home.

Sit down please; would you like to have a drink?"

"No, no thank you," he says, still dazed. "Can't take any more coconut juice."

"It's not coconut juice," the woman replies. "I have a still. How about a Pina Colada?"

Trying to hide his continued amazement, he accepts, and they sit down on her couch to talk.

After they have exchanged their stories, the woman announces, "I'm going to slip into something more comfortable. Would you like to take a shower and shave?

There is a razor upstairs in the cabinet in the bathroom."

No longer questioning anything, Ed goes into the bathroom. There, in the cabinet, is a razor made from a bone handle. Two shells honed to a hollow ground edge are fastened on to its end inside of a swivel mechanism. "WOW! This woman is amazing,"he muses,"What next?"

When he returns, she greets him wearing 'nothing but vines' strategically positioned, and smelling faintly of gardenias.

She beckons for him to sit down next to her. "Tell me," she begins suggestively, slithering closer to him, "We've been out here for a really long time.

You've been lonely. There's something I'm sure you really feel like doing right now, something

you've been longing for all these months. You know..." She stares into his eyes.

He can't believe what he's hearing: "You mean .", he swallows excitedly;
"I can check my e-mail from here?!"

I believe it was Gregg Palmer...he talks about it in his interview in this months CLASSIC IMAGES magazine.

Did anyone catch last nights EXTREME HOME MAKE-OVER? It was the episode that my nephew worked on...I didn't see him  but here was there in the mass of people demolishing the old house.

Tonight on HOW'D THEY DO THAT they will show how they did that episode...so maybe John will show up in that.

By the way...that is a rather touching show.

So, have any gay characters showed up yet on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES? I had thought maybe Bree's husband might be bisexual, but I haven't read anything about his seeing a man.

I watched '24' last night and recorded LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. It seems cruel that all of these shows air opposite one another when there are other nights where there is nothing worth watching.

MB, I only caught the last few minutes, where the commercial said the contractors were from Oregon.  Was the house in Oregon?  Had the lady's husband died in the fire?

JMK, the house was in Seattle, but the builders were indeed from Oregon. My nephew works for that company and he, and other employees (and spouses) were shipped up north to participate in the show. Alas, John was swallowed up by the crowd and his face didn't get in front of the camera, it appears.

DerBrucer, that reminds me of a joke I told when we met some friends of ours with their kid at Burger King Playland (huge climbing structure that our boys adore).  Anyway, they, like us (and DR Jane) are vegetarians, so Steve went out and brought back a Gardenburger.  I asked them, "You know what their slogan for that is, don't you?"  The didn't.

"Almost 30% less risk of causing e coli than our standard burger."   ;D

Not Bree's hubby.  Not so far as anything has happened yet.  He had a fling with a dominatrix, but it's purely heterosexual in tone.  Which suits me to a tee...it's high time hetero behavioral fetishes were freed from the hint of having homosexual undertones.

Every time you think it's stopped it just starts up again, worse than ever.  If we'd just have four or five hours without, then things could at least drain and dry.  As my close personal friends Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer said, "Enough is enough."

Bruce- I am a water issue expert.  You definitely have a few,and you probably have more you don't know about ----yet.  Sinbce you justg got your house, make sure everything is inbspected and fixed.  Trust me on this one.  Otherwise I'lll have to start listing all the products and procedures used to fix such problems.

Other than the original movie cast (and I don't think I'm alone in preferring Leslie Parrish to Edie Adams as Daisy Mae in this particular case), I think almost any OTHER casting would be wrong.

For our water-logged, moisture-drenched, dew-laden, aqua-sodden LA friends, I recommend a movie festival with "Chinatown" as the main feature to ponder and pontificate upon.

Just exactly WHAT has LA done to take advantage of times like these to trap the water and use it to the benefit of all....or, as I suspect, have they just contented themselves to let it all drain away?

Is the LA River overflowing yet?  I'd love to see a picture of it with "something" flowing in it.

At the very least, one should watch "The Rains Came," or, if you've a tape off the Fox Movie Channel, "The Rains of Ranchipur."

Another storm is moving upon us in California...and it's certain to be a bad one from the Bay Area to San Diego...and it's moving in tonight, last I heard.  If I were a certain renter, I think I'd go out and buy a tarp and affix it to a certain portion of my roof (with the help of local friends, of course) using a staple gun to counter it being ripped up by gusting winds.

That or move into the Beverly Hills Hotel when he starts leaving footprints in the san...er...um...carpet!
