A view of DtM's favorite haunt will enlighten your evening:

John Wanamaker's - Philadelphia:Meet you at the Eagle!

der Burcer

Great pics, DR Derbrucer.  Unfortunately, they are of the Wanamaker's of old.  The chain was purchased about fifteen years ago by the Mays Company and eventually converted to Lord & Taylor's.  While the store is not the Grande Dame it used to be, you can still walk through that stunning first floor retail area and see the humongous pipe organ and, at Christmas time, the Holiday Light Show.

Even money that the questions they ask you will be about the commercials interspersed within this supposed "pilot."

Actually it was commercial free! And the show they made me watch was a 90 minute show of ALIAS...the first episode I am guessing...I have never seen the show before but I have heard it mentioned on HHW.

I have to say that it was not really my kind of show, but like a good boy I sat through all 90 minutes...and like clockwork they called me as soon as it was over and asked me questions for just over 30 minutes...whew...!

Still it was fun to give my opinion of a show, even if it was one I wasn't crazy about.

Great pics, DR Derbrucer.  Unfortunately, they are of the Wanamaker's of old.

Hmmm... the photographer's web site  dated the pictures as February 2004.

Can Jose still meet us at this Eagle?

Thank you, DR George, for the correction on the pic. It looks that way on my computer, too, but must not have rezied it correctly when I downsized it for posting. I'll try your version in a minute.
You're welcome!

Thanks again, DR George, the resized pic worked like a charm. Don't know what I did wrong, but I'll go back and look again at what I did.
It's the aspect-ratio:  it needs to be 110x150 pixels.  Take the number of pixels across and divide by .73 and you'll get the number of pixels that it should be up and down...if that makes sense.

For some reason, I feel I must fix Elmore's.  I hope he doesn't mind!  Here is one version (however, with the white background, you can't tell that it has been modified):

Yes folks, this is downtown!

Oh thank God you included that caption.  My first thought was that you and Woody had bought a boat!

Ya, know, you are probably right about the Wanamaker pics.  It does look sort of modern and lacks the quaint cluttered look of the old retail aisles.  Maybe one day this week I'll take a stroll over there with my cam and check it out.

I'd be delighted for us to meet DR Jose at this Eagle.  I've also never been at that Eagle.  Roll Eyes

Time for some math, a word problem...

It is now 1:00AM EST.

I have a matinee of HALLELUJAH, BABY! at Noon tomorrow/today.  That is 11 hours from now.

To get to said matinee on time, I will have to leave the house no later than 10:45AM.  Preferably 10:30AM.  *Parking is quite the "adventure" during the weekdays.

Which means I should be up and out of bed by 9:30AM at the latest.

And since I've been getting up anywhere around 11:00AM-12:30PM the past few days.

So, this means I should go to bed...Huh

Now.  Soon.  Later.  -But not much later.

However, this also means I shall be able to be on I-95 South heading back to Richmond by 2:20PM Tuesday afternoon.  And my mise en place for my baking should be set up by 7:00PM.

So, until the morning...

Goodnight.

The "Eagle" as in Wanamaker's Grand Foyer, not the "Eagle" as in...well, you know Shocked
There is no "Eagle" in Philly.

On the other hand, der B and I have dropped in at the Bike Stop more than once.   Cool
