I went to my friend's house (he and his wife live in the same condo complex as me, so I was able to walk there), and he had several shirts, a couple of t-shirts and a couple sweaters that I took.  I only tried on one of each and so far, they all fit.  Score! :D

A friend of mine lost a lot of weight, and he gave me a number of shirts and vests.  Unfortunately, they are too big for me, also.

I have a bunch of my old 4X shirts that are still in very good condition.  A friend told me that she knows someone who could tailor them to a smaller size.  My friend didn't know how much the woman charged to do that, but thought that it might be cheaper than new shirts.  Someday, I'll look into that.

True, but I would think that it would be a fairly simple process.  When I was in high school show choir, we had to make (or have made) our shirts and vests.  The pattern that was chosen for the group didn't come in a big enough size for me, so a friend took me to the home ec teacher (my friend was in her class) and the teacher quickly adjusted the pattern to a larger size.  I'm sure that taking in the shirts would be as simple.
