So, I decided I needed something and went to Ralph's, which is open twenty-four hours.  I got two little mini-things and went to the one checkout counter and was there greeted by a moron couple who were checking out with their five HUNDRED dollars of groceries - three full carts - so a long line of people got to stand there for fifteen minutes.

:o Yikes!  Who goes shopping that late and spends that much??

And didn't Ralph's have another checker available (even that late) to open another line?

Well, it's time for sleep, so sleep I must.

Have a good day, all!

Sweets were just what the doctor ordered.  I have some left over for tomorrow should I have a craving, but I'll probably give some to Grant, too.

Good very early day. The new dog woke me up to go outside. She's learning.

Annabelle survived the night, with no bleeding or vomiting, and she seems to be getting back to her old self. Neither she nor Thatch was crazy about this morning's salmon paté, so we'll chalk that down as a dud.

Thatch misses his dry Meow Mix, but I can only set it out if I lock Annabelle in the bathroom.  She's on a strict soft food diet for two weeks.  This morning she tossed all the packs of her dry kitty treats to the floor.

Otherwise, we're back to kitty status quo here.

I've got some tidying up, then Annabelle and I will patrol the building.  After that, I'll work on How To Succeed . . .  most of the day.

I am curious if I would like The Great Alone.  If you want to finish the other book turn your wifi off until you finish. Might not be practical for you. But I keep the wifi on my kindle off all the time unless I am downloading an e-book.

THE SEVEN-UPS:

The producer-director, Phil D'Antoni, was my publicity client when he was producing BULLITT

I agree that his first directing gig was not up to that film, nor THE FRENCH CONNECTION, but with THE SEVEN-UPS, he certainly out-did the car chase on both of those earlier movies.

Roy Scheider, of course, was in my movie, THE DOORWAY, shot in Ireland.

The other day, I mentioned that I was reading Maureen O'Hara's autobiography, 'TIS HERSELF, and somebody here (I forget who), asked if I'd come to the section where Maureen walked in on John Ford kissing John Wayne.

I read that chapter last night, but the actor Ford was kissing was not named.  In fact, based on what was going on at that time and my knowledge of Hollywood gossip, my educated hunch is that it was somebody else...who I will not name either.

If you like Hollywood autobiographies, I can't recommend this one too highly.  It's a great read.

Yes, someone should have helped other customers.  Do they have a self checkout area there?

I am not a fan of using the self checkout but might have in this instance.

Thanks.  Well, if I had my wifi turned off right now I could not be posting ;)

So far I am enjoying the book.  I haven't read enough yet to have an opinion if you would like it. THE NIGHTINGALE might be the best of her novels.

Yes, the car chase is quite spectacular and lives up to the excellence of the other two.

So here's a project:  watch all three of them, just the car chase segments, and note the similarities/differences.

Got my regular (monthly, more or less) dinner meeting with my main director friend this evening.  We had to postpone this twice in the past few weeks, but tonight is on and there's plenty to discuss.

Rehearsal last night was about as to be expected - there was a lady there teaching the orphans a bit of singing technique.  She has good technique, but she sure can't sing - she reminded me of Florence Foster Jenkins.....

I will return to rehearsal tonight to sort of see what's going on.....but off on Thursday...and then a read thru on Sunday with the director.

I will say NINETEEN orphans is way too many ORPHANS.....we have more orphans than some orphanages....of the nineteen - 16 of them are okay but the other three make up for it.
