Well, I'm a happy boy. The record I took a gamble on was indeed one I didn't have.
It's unbelievable to me that I never acquired all of these back in the 1970s when they were being issued, but I recently found that they're in fact quite stunning so I've been filling in the blanks. It's RCA's "Classic Film Scores of..." series with Charles Gerhardt and the National Philharmonic. Today's find is the Miklos Rozsa, which I absolutely must have had, and gotten rid of somehow. I shall clean it up and properly listen to it on the Big Speakers tomorrow. I'll also check for any others I might be missing.
It just happened that last year I took one of these out to listen to, and found that I'd never gotten all the ones they'd released. And while I'd harbored bad memories of RCA's '70s vinyl (remember Dynaflex?), with the cleaners we have now and the better equipment I'm playing mine on, they turn out to be gorgeous. They're probably on CD, but I'm thrilled with the cherce vinyl copies I have.
