TOD: Forever Plaid and Man of La Mancha, which I think was originally a one-act play and should be.

And I think Joseph ... Dreamcoat should also be one act.

Jane, I haven’t seen Shape of Water yet but Sally Hawkins gave a better performance in Maudie. Margot Robbie in I, Tonya and Siamese Ronan in Lady Bird were both better than McDormand, an actress I usually love.

As for Rockwell, I think Woody Harrelson in the same movie gave a better performance.
Hawkins was wonderful in Shape of Water.

Interesting.

I preferred Rockwell to Harrelson though I thought they both did an excellent job.

So TCB and Jane, before I contact the theater - what are your thoughts as to whether you'll want seats that June 14th night.  (I'm hoping since neither Skip nor I will be asking for any unique seating the rest of the run (people who've mentioned going to the regular perfs have been able to buy easily online; all perfs AFTER the 14th are there, but the 14th is not), the 14th seating will be easy.

I believe TCB would need a reserved spot if he is going.

Our plan is to drive up on the 14th and return home the morning of the 15th so we can see the show.

It's a day for staying indoors!

But I must, at some point this afternoon, walk the trash can down to the road for tomorrow's pickup. And I'm on my last two K-cups so a quick trip to Stew Leonard's is in order.

I do not miss having to take trash barrels out.

I have not seen Three Billboards yet although my library has the dvd. But I did see The Shape of Water this weekend. OMG that was the strangest movie!  I didn't hate it. But I definitely did not love it.

T.O.D.

This wasn't really a play, but a short story by Evan Hunter (THE BLACKBOARD JUNGLE).  As I recall, the title was THE LAST SPIN.

Back when I was a junior in high school, my late friend, Gene Rice, discovered this short story about two teens from rival gangs who are chosen by their respective gangs to play a game of Russian roulette in order to avoid an all-out gang war.  The survivor's gang wins the territory.

The two kids start out as enemies, but as they pass the gun back and forth, they bond and, just before the final trigger is pulled, they decide to "screw the gangs".  Unfortunately the last chamber is not empty.

I adapted the short story into play form, a rather simple task, and Gene and I presented it in front of the Drama class.  It went over so well, and the teacher and school principal considered it such a good life lesson, that over the next few weeks, they brought different classes in to see our play.

We were a hit!

This is a great memory.

Full disclosure:  the snow we're experiencing is just squalls and flurries, no accumulation expected.  Even so, it's pretty weird to see in the middle of April.

TOD - In high school I was in a one-act titled "Overtones," in which 2 proper ladies are having tea while their inner thoughts are played out by their alter-egos behind them.  It was great fun.

In college, a group of friends always went to the Student Lab Theatre on Thursday afternoons to see one-acts and scenes from longer plays performed by theatre majors.  The one I remember most was "Muck," in which Christine Lahti had all kinds of - well, muck - thrown at her.  Not sure what the point was, but I wonder if she writes about it in her newly-released book:  True Stories from an Unreliable Witness.

I knew you would eventually report in after EIGHT hours of sleep.

DR TCB how many did you get?  I woke up at 7:00 but did go back to sleep until 8:00.

Sometimes I need that product DR CHAS SMITH.

Yes DR GINNY we had the same squalls and flurries, but we also have a FREEZE warning out, so I brought my milkwood planter indoors for a few days.

A bit of snow on the ground here and there.

I think The Zoo Story is a PERFECT one act play.....

It always seemed to me that Lily Tomlin's woman on the bench character was sort of a Zoo Story lite.....

Back from cleaning, listening to, and shelving some records. And throwing a bunch in the give 'em to the library pile.

The Rozsa film music album was perfect. I did well.

I also found to my complete and utter amazement that I had a mint copy of The Grass Harp. I had no memory of acquiring it, but I know I hadn't listened to it. It's beautiful -- and in sampling it, I liked the sound of the recording. It'll be fun to set up a direct A/B comparison with BK's upcoming CD. :)

I think it's finally stopped raining. Or it's slowed down to something I can't see or hear from indoors. I'll be very happy not to be walking the trash can down in the downpours we had all morning.

DR Jennifer, have you read ARROWOOD by Laura McHugh?  If not I think you would like it.
