So many wonderful character actors.  I do miss the quantity and quality of  these people.  As Ruth Gordon aged she turned into a lead character actor.

It's interesting that Paul Giamatti was ignored for Sideways.

I’m shocked and disappointed.

Yes DR STUART - the late Constance Ford (adding her to my list) spent many years on Daytime TV....she was wonderful in A SUMMER PLACE and ROME ADVENTURE.

And yes, Miss Allison Hayes is what WAS known as statuesque!  I believe that was a polite 1950's term for "stacked" and or "built."

DRJANE....Ruth Gordon....oh my.  I will never forget her Oscar Acceptance Speech.  It is one of my favorites.

This wizened old gnome-like woman makes her way up to the podium grabs the Oscar as says:  "I can't tell ya how encouragin' this is!"

Good Afternoon!

Back from the computer store.  After lunch, I just felt like getting out of the house, and that's where I ended up.

I almost became a Mac User this afternoon.  Almost.  As I had thought, some of the resellers are starting to drop the prices on the current configurations.  I was just looking at the basic iBook - I don't need anything fancy.  It was being offered at a "Manager's Special" of $200 off the regular price.  Sooooo tempting.  Alas, I left the store the way I came in, empty handed.  So...

However, on the way out, I started looking at some of the accessories available for my iPAQ Pocket PC (I won it two years ago from an online sweepstakes!).  Well, there was a lot more to look at than I thought.  Programs, accessories, etc.  For just about $200, I could outift my Pocket PC with enough peripherals to make it almost as fully functional as my laptop.  And that would even include a wireless card!  So...

With all the expected unexpected expenses coming up in the next few months - getting out of Richmond, getting up to New York City, etc. - I just really need to watch my pennies right now.  A new laptop would be wonderful, but I can make do for now with what I have.  Additionally, I just don't want to start using my credit cards again no matter how tempting - and how easy! - that can be.  We shall see.

-Now, there is a MegaMillions drawing tonight, so...

Speaking of Paul Giamatti - Did anyone catch him on SNL this past weekend?  It actually wasn't too bad a show.  Not great, but not a total stinker.  However, imho, Paul Giamatti seemed very nervous in the monologue - he had that nervous quiver in his voice.  -Or maybe that's just him?

I think they simply had a rich roster of nominees to pick from this year, as usual with the men. Someone is naturally going to lose out.

I watched ONE LIFE TO LIVE today, and there was the marvelous Patricia Eliot making one of her infrequent appearances.

Self-help groups.  The self attends the group.  The group helps the self.  The help doesn't work, and then the self becomes a serial killer.

BK, I remember your mentioning a few days ago that you picked up CARRIE on DVD recently, but I don't remember your mentioning having watched it yet. I think it's one of Laurence Olivier's most underheralded performances and one of the greatest ever. Am interested to know what you thought of it.

I'm taking a brief break. Perhaps I'll snack on some chestnuts. The re-re-re-re-writing is going well. Must keep my energy WAY UP. Perhaps I should change into a pink number.

Hi everybody. I don't have time to read the notes or the posts because my Rhetorics class is  starting in a little bit. I just wanted to say hello and to tell you that I am very tired and in desperate need of a Cherry Coke.

Afraid all I can offer you at the moment is some Wild Cherry Pepsi.  But I suppose Tacoma isn't really on the way to your Rhetorics class, is it?

Carrie is next up.

Just spoke to Juliana A. Hansen, the birthday girl, who is having a lovely birthday dinner with her dad in NY.  She sends her best.

I do believe I have written enough today - nine pages, which is very unusual for me.

Welcome nine GUESTS.  We're talkin' about charactor actors and Oscar noms.

Why are there more GUESTS than users right now?  Is it siesta time?  Are people spending quality time doing things when they could be spending quality time right here at haineshisway.com?

What a pathetic group of songs:

Original Song
[/size][/u]

"Accidentally In Love" from "Shrek 2"

"Al Otro Lado Del Rio" from "The Motorcycle Diaries"

"Believe" from "The Polar Express"

"Learn To Be Lonely" from "The Phantom of the Opera"

"Look To Your Path (Vois Sur Ton Chemin)" from "The Chorus (Les Choristes)"

Speaking of AOL, I got an apology email today from AOL, looked like a form letter, they must be used to apoligizing "for your frustrating experience".  It included instructions to call to cancel - yeah right, I faxed instead
