When HMOs started they were supposed to make everything more efficient. I've yet to see that. I've also yet to see a well-managed HMO. UCLA was horrible and my last referral at Cedars-Sinai took six weeks. I can't understand how the Powers That Be at these institutions think they're doing a good job.

DR JOHN G - An Annie joke from FDR in REEFER MADNESS....I am intrigued but my curiosity is not so great that I would actually watch the movie.

He mentions something about this orphan adopted by a billionaire once told him that the sun would come out tomorrow, but he didn't believe her until then.

Watched an absolutely wonderful French film called The Crime of Monsieur Lange, which is a French word play, I think because Lange is pronounced the same as l'ange, which is angel.

Anyway, Jean Renoir had some great comedy in the flick, including one of the best train station departure scenes I've ever seen. Just a sweet, wonderful movie.

Now watching another Bogie and Bacall movie, To Have and Have Not, in which Humphrey Bogart says gas costs 28 cents a gallon.

Started reading Walter Isaacson's Leonardo biography and am loving it. In four days, I'm almost halfway through. I knew almost nothing about him, except he was a genius. So, far the book has covered his theater addiction and how he did many of his designs for scenery before taking the ideas further. He apparently improvised beautiful music on the fly (perhaps the first jazz lyre player) and wrote lyrics that were considered very good for the time. Humble beginnings for a gay bastard from the town of Vinci.

I did a three-mile jog, and then we did our little reading - just Doug, his daughter Hartley, and me singing the songs.  It really went quite well and all the changes I was very insistent on have really paid off.  I would be perfectly fine going into rehearsal with this draft - I wrote down just five or six word things that are impeding the rhythm in a laugh line, but that's it, and I decided to cut the second verse of a song that Doug had asked me to extend - I want to do what in essence would be that verse but not sung - with a pas de deux - so, that's leaving the script.

Nothing significant happening yet. Insurance adjuster comes out Sunday, earliest day I could get. My contractor-to-be has been looking it all over in the meantime and will have his report and estimate ready by then or soon thereafter. We’ve been doing various and sundry cleanup and preparing for the eventual onslaught of work to begin. But we don’t know when that will be.

That's a shame. I think with my homeowners insurance, I would have to wait for an agent, too. The company I work for lets you upload photos of your damage and then deposits a check in your account. It's quick and it works. We settled all of the Sandy claims within three months.

One of these days I have to figure out if I would do better switching home and auto to my employer.

The librarian I prefer to check out with and whose name is also John told me today that the library increased the amount of reservations you can make from 25 to 50 items. He also said you can now check out up to 10 videos at a time, which is great on those weeks when everything comes in all at once.

One of the folks we featured in the barbecue book has a cookbook out now, Cowboy Barbecue: Fire & Smoke from Original Texas Vaqueros. Looks really good and not all barbecue. A recipe for green rice with tomatillos and poblanos looks excellent.
