Gosh, spellcheck seems to want to change Evita to Evite.

Musing out loud here. Some of you have done this already, but here's my two cents:

I've been a hanger-on of my original phone landline, as it's always been the most reliable thing in times of outages and in quality of service. This time, however, it's the one service that still hasn't been restored since the May 15 storms. Power and cable took less than a week to be rebuilt, and this delay is a first for the phone lines. Just talked to them and they're still so swamped with the general outage problem that the soonest I'll see a technician again is Friday.

This got us to thinking. Normally, we'd resign ourselves to waiting since we do have our cell phones and reception is much more reliable here at the house than it used to be. But we also have internet voice service as part of the Xfinity package, the quality is excellent, and that voice line is going largely unused. In discussing the possibility of dropping the expense of the traditional landline, we all agreed that our one hangup (sorry, but we don't allow groaning here) was the prospect of losing the phone number itself. I've had it for 29 years, since moving here from L.A., Kristi and Nathan have now had it for a number of years, and "everyone" knows it, so it would seem sad and traumatic to drop it. But I've also checked with Xfinity, and the number is totally eligible for porting to their system. It just takes a few business days once we give them the okay on it. So it's very likely this will happen.

I'm up, I'm up - was up at six-thirty after three hours of sleep, then back to bed at seven-thirty for three more - not enough.

And spellcheck doesn't seem to care how Barbra Streisand spells her name, spellcheck says she's Barbara whether she likes it or not.  I had to go over the name three times before it stayed at Barbra (on another site).

Never a problem spelling her "Barbra" on this site, though.

That's insane.

As far as I know (which probably isn't very far), I have autocorrect turned off wherever it exists. I do see red underlining showing words it thinks are misspelled, but it doesn't actually change anything.

Lots of variables, though. It could be the browser, operating system, software, etc. Hard to know what's doing it. But really, I can't imagine dealing with these "corrections" so many of you are fighting all the time.

TCB and Jane - Bellevue looks more in a reasonable price range.

And it might be fun one day to be able to say to the owner of Talkin Broadway who emailed me "You need to check into Bellevue... you're crazy dude!  V.J."   that I took that advice after all!

(To anyone confused:   "Bellevue" has a very different meaning in New York than in the Pacific Northwest.  :)  )

I was familiar with the NY Bellevue before I knew there was a Bellevue Washington.  There is also a Leavenworth, Washington that is a charming little town and not a prison.

Back from a sandwich and no fries or side salad, and picking up some packages.

If I wasn't a terrible speller I would turn off autocorrect.  I don't know why I can't have spellcheck without autocorrect.

You can. I’ve been checking. On the iPad and iPhone (iOS 11):

Under Settings — General — Keyboard — there’s a bunch of things you can turn on or off. Check Spelling is one (I have it turned on), Auto-correction is another (I have it turned off).

Haven’t looked on the Mac yet, but I can’t believe it would offer anything less. Also haven’t checked the Windows laptop, but stuff like this ought to be customizable on anything.
