Mikhail Baryshnikov is presenting an award tonight. I have not seen him in many years.
They are presenting a special performance from last year's winner, DEAR EVAN HANSEN. Do they always do that?
I suspect the producers are paying for it to push the tour going out.
They're updating for the tour, afraid that tour crowds won't like the challenging aspects of the story:
Evan will suffer from very high self-esteem rather than very low self-esteem; he'll have parents who drive him to get caught in a lie by being there too much (the mother's great show-stopping number doesn't even need to be rewritten that much, just a new costume); and instead of consoling Connor's family for Connor's suicide, Connor will have just left to join a production of GYPSY as Tulsa. The new title will, of course, be DEAR EVAN HANDSOME.
It'll kill in Vegas, for sure. Will likely sit down there for years.
