I met Loyce in March 1973 when she played Polly Peachum in a production of Threepenny Opera that I directed, and we were close friends for 45 years. She was a very pretty soprano and we did a lot of community theatre together. She was responsible for one of the worst weekends of my life in May 1982 when her marriage broke up and she flew to New York. For three days I had a good friend going through a nervous breakdown in my apartment. It was hell, but I'm very glad I was there for her because she was always there for me.
Last June, when I was back in Ohio and I spent a day with her, I was aware that she was showing signs of dementia. Her sister told me she believes it was the result of a botched surgery on her spine to deal with sciatica issues. Perhaps I'll never know if it were or not.
Here are photos of Loyce in 1976 Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well . . . and my last Ohio production, The Beggar's Opera. The last photo is from DR Ginny's wonderful party last year. Loyce amd Diane alternated the role of Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance.
