The original version of We Are the World was played too much back in the day, but I liked this version:

I saw the same tour of Luv with Bosley, Loudon, and Edelman.  I loved it.

I know exactly the first show in a big theater with no curtain - Stop the World at the Huntington Hartford.

And of course all the small theater shows I saw had no curtains.

At least two of our 100-or-so seat community theaters have the curtain. I can't say they always use it, but it's there and it's functional. The high schools usually use it, and a couple of the colleges where I've seen musicals in the past year have it and use it.

I love intermissions, too. BK, was last night's single intermission sufficient for your tastes?

Topic of the Day:

I think the first play (not musical) that I ever saw was probably I Remember Mama at my high school and my sister was in it.  She was in Drama for her last two years of high school and played Dagmar.

I have no idea what might've been the first national tour play that I saw.  It must've been something at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.

The one time I went to NYC in 1995, the only play (not musical) that I saw was Paul Robeson with Avery Brooks.  It was one of the theatrical highlights of my life!

RE theatre curtains:  I have a "thing" about curtains.  The ones that go up and down have always seemed to me more elegant and dignified than the ones that open from the center.

The Washington Center for the Performing Arts here in Olympia has a curtain (a "grand drape").  The theater at South Puget Sound Community College does, too, but no other theater with their own building (Harlequin Productions, Olympia Family Theater, Olympia Little Theatre) does.

The curtain at the WCPA can be opened either way. :)

Well, shit.  I now possess two Overflow Alarms and I cannot get either of the two to work.  The batteries are in, they've been turned on, the sensors wetted, and nothing happens.  Then to continue a shitty day, I had to pull out the big ladder and climb ten feet off the ground to change the kitchen light.

Not a good or productive afternoon and I keep thinking it's Friday.

TOD:

First play was A THOUSAND CLOWNS at the Huntington Hartford. This was one of those shows that BK told me I MUST see.

I spent a couple hours today trying to catch up on some tax stuff. I accomplished a fair amount, but it's moving more slowly than I'd hoped. It can be so tedious! I'm hoping to get more done before the hot weather because it's just too hot to work at the kitchen table then.

There was an interesting article in the NYT earlier today about a bookshop with apartment above in Scotland. You rent the two for a week at a time. Of course, it has now disappeared! If I can find it later I'll post it.

Back from lunch with Grant - El Torito - not bad - and then picking up a couple of packages.  Now playing Sergio and Brasil 77, and then it's on to more classical jazz.

DR Ginny, your funeral ephemera arrived today.  That photo is much like Loyce when I net her in 1973.
