Here's Magnificat's report tonight on Mego:
Tonight's update is cautiously optimistic!
We just had our evening update from Dr. Brida, the critical care specialist overseeing Mego's care today at the VERG Brooklyn ICU. As Dr. Brida put it, "He is not out of the woods yet, but he is back to trending upward."
His antibiotics were changed and he is now on cephalexin and clindamycin. He seems to be responding well to them. He is still very weak, but he is making it to his litterbox again. He is increasingly drawn to food, and today had both wet and dry food. Still needs to be supplemented through his feeding tube, though. And...
He was weaned off the norepinephrine and is now completely off vasopressors! So far his blood pressure is holding up well, but the next few hours are crucial. The big concern is whether he will be able to hold on to his blood pressure overnight without any vasopressors. So please, please keep sending those good thoughts his way!
Exactly one week ago, Mego was rushed to VERG Brooklyn from the Brooklyn ACC. He has been fighting for his life ever since. The ICU staff have gotten very attached to him. When we called at 2 a.m. this morning (yes, yes, we know, but we can't sleep until we know Mego is all right), the nurse told he was doing better. "He likes to rub against my hand and purr, so I make sure he gets extra attention."
Mego really is special.
