I was productive at home today.  I am pretty much organized for packing.

Once packed I can begin cleaning & dusting.  We like to leave a clean home when we go away.

Yesterday I saw "My Life on a Diet," Renee Taylor's one-woman show.   She was really great.  Very funny.  Lots of great stories about Marilyn Monroe, Barbra, S and others.

Last night I saw "Desperate Measures," which of course was discussed on HHW recently.  I agree that it was very funny.  I had a great time!

This afternoon I saw "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," at the Irish Repertory Theatre.  Let's just say the singing was wonderful.  Melissa Errico, Stephen Bogardus and John Cudia sang the score very well.  Some of the original songs were eliminated, such as "Tozy and Cosh" and "Don't Tamper with My Sister" (probably a good thing ) and the plot has been changed. There's no fiancé anymore.  No Greek tycoon.   I enjoyed it overall.

Lots of laughs tonight at the Golden Girls Live.  The guys (a real-life married couple) who play Dorothy and Sophia are the best, I think.  They really reminded me of Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty.  All four were good.  There was a lot of ad-libbing, which made it fun.

"Sophia" is played by Peter Mac, who also plays Judy Garland every Saturday at the same theatre as the Golden Girls show.  He gave us a little preview of Judy--he's really captured her.

I had a nice time with Ben and Anthony.   We went to our usual place, Good Stuff Diner.

Got one quarter of the way through The Great Alone. I like it, but I think Hannah needs a better editor. It bothers me that a 13-year-old boy in the early 1970s would use the phrase douchebag while the 14-year-old girl wants to call 911 long before that number was ever used for emergencies. In the beginning, the girl is very much a camera, like the one she carries around her neck, reflecting what's going on and yet surprisingly outside much of it. I hope she grows into more of a character.

I preferred Hannah's "The Nightingale".

I looked it up and the first 911 call was made in Feb 1968 in Alabama.    I can't find when it was first used in Alaska.

Thanks for the note on 911. I never knew that. When I was growing up, you called 0 for an operator in case of an emergency.

I enjoyed The Nightingale but had some reservations about it. I am liking much of The Great Alone, but I'm only halfway through.

Folks from church came over tonight. I grilled steaks, but somehow the propane tank for the grill emptied quickly. The steaks were done at a medium rare, but for the folks who wanted them cooked longer, I had to pop those in the oven.

The last of the folks just left. One friend really needed to talk and it was good to see her let go and deal with some of the anger that has built up in her life. She's had a lot of trials in her life, including the deaths of a child and a stepchild. And it was good to see her let her guard down and open up. It's not something she does often, and hopefully she will continue with another friend who has done grief counseling.

Now that I have my laptop and Alexa hooked up, I was able to play Ella as backup for the evening. I have more than 5.5 hours of her on iTunes, because it kept playing.

I think Bobby Short may be the only other artist that I have that much music of.
