Because there's nothing like a good Mako and Jerry Orbach story - I love this story (from Wiki) of those guys after George Rose beat them for the Tony.

Mako's Broadway career included creating the roles of the Reciter, the shōgun, and the Chicago-based inventor of the rickshaw, in the original 1976 production of Stephen Sondheim's Broadway musical Pacific Overtures, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. Mako's landlord at the time, Jerry Orbach, was also nominated for his role in Chicago; both lost, however, to George Rose from the revival of My Fair Lady. Mako recalled being woken up at 4:30 the morning after the Tony ceremony by Orbach, who was shouting from the floor below: "Hey, Mako! What the f--- happened? I can't believe it; we lost to a f------ revival!".

For those who are unaware of who Grant is or just how famous he is as a guitarist, go directly to YouTube, search Chuck Mangione and Feels So Good and listen.  What you will hear is one of the most legendary guitar solos ever.  That's Grant.

Thanks.  I will have to listen later.

Geissman was good on You’d Be So Nice ... But I missed Don Ameche.

(Just kidding. It was great.)

"Don Ameche" and "hanamichi" - is that a perfect rhyme?

Annabelle and I made our morning patrol.  She, Thatch and I are unhappy that today is Val's last day.  The new super is a friend of his, so I hope he's a good person. Val's new apartment is a block away from my doctor, so I'm hoping we can meet for coffee occasionally.  His wife Heidi is still working next door, so that's nice.

Well, this is...interesting.  And the Oscar for the most popular film goes to...? Academy adds new category.  It turns out that there's going to be a new Oscar category next year:  Achievement in Popular Film.  Here are the first couple of paragraphs (I added the bold):

Quote
Often the biggest omissions from the major categories at the annual Oscars are the year’s biggest blockbuster movies. That’s about to change, as the The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences said Wednesday it is creating a new category to honor “achievement in popular film,” to be introduced at the 2019 Oscars.

The Academy also said it is planning a “more globally accessible three-hour telecast” starting next year and said its 2020 ceremony will be moved up to Feb. 9, almost a month earlier than its usual slot at the end of February that marks the conclusion of Hollywood’s annual awards season.

It was a 90 minute bus ride from hell from 20th Street to 82nd Street, but I am home and two angry hungry kitties are fed.  It's been a long but fun day.

I think DR JOHN G should do ANNIE just so we would have at least 3 productions of the show this year with HHW connections.

I was in a local production of ANNIE in 1993 (or so) and played seven, count 'em, SEVEN different characters (very little dialogue, mostly songs)!  I'd love to do the show again!

The Academy is done.  They are now a complete joke, pandering for ratings.  They've been moving up the ceremony over and over and over again and I predicted this a year ago.  Certain awards being presented off camera - I mean, could they flail anymore?  I'm sure they'll find away.  Listening to music.
