Voldemort is basically a middle school girl: he has a locket, a diary, a tiara, a ring, and is completely obsessed with a teenage boy.

Friday afternoon greetings!  It’s absolutely gorgeous here in SW Ohio today, so Richard and I went to Lebanon for lunch and a little shopping.  I had a credit at Kay’s, a favorite clothing shop, which I spent - and then some.  On the way home we drove past the building where Richard, DR Elmore, and Richard’s parents attended high school and Rob attended middle school.  It’s being torn down...

Finished Daisy Miller. Forgot that the irritating kid in the movie was James McMurtry, son of Larry McMurtry.

Starting Pickup on South Street with the great Richard Widmark. Sam Fuller at his finest. Thelma Ritter is wonderful.

I shall refrain from making political comments. I will only say that I think some people are very short-sighted.

Back from a nice lunch meeting - I had my usual Cobb salad and it was fine.  I did Ranch because I thought the vinegar would be too acidic.  I feel okay.  Picked up a replacement package.  I've answered e-mails (lots) had telephonic calls, and am listening to more of the brilliant Oscar Levant set.

DR KevinH, do you have any plans for your retirement?

Well, I hope to travel more.  Other than that, nothing in particular.  There are lots of things I could do to organize my place.

Listening to Gottfried Von Einem's opera of The Trial.  I'm enjoying it.  It's a live recording from the original production done in 1953.  As always with these things released on CD over two decades ago, no attempt to make this sound good was even attempted.  That make me tempted to send it off to Chris Malone to see what he could do to it.

This afternoon our furniture will be moved back into the guestroom.  The paper protecting the hallway floors can be picked up.  I expect tomorrow Keith will be able to put the artwork back up on the walls.
Then we wait 18 days for the carpet to be installed.

We are not happy about the long wait, especially since the delay was due to the insurance company taking so long to approve the new carpet.

None of this happened as they did not return and will not until Monday morning.

In the "old" department, a half-hour ago I sat on my couch like so much fish and turned on the Flix of Net and decided to watch the first of the Department Q movies - it begins with the credits and ten seconds into them I fell asleep.  I couldn't believe it.  I woke up about three times hearing loud noises, would watch five seconds and bam, fast asleep.  Thirty minutes later there was a loud noise from the movie, I woke up, and the scene that was playing was interesting so I began watching but had no clew what anyone was actually doing, so I just went back to the top and started over.

This Walter Kerr "Cabaret" review was linked in the Joe Masteroff obit.

He really seems mean to Jill Haworth.  Did he think she cast herself in the show?

Back to Pickup on South Street. Really good stuff, all filtered through cigarette smoke. Oh, wait, one guy has a pipe.

I got some lovely presents, including a golf shirt, a hanging plant of zinnias, a bottle of Woodford Reserve bourbon, a California pinot noir and some Belgian chocolates.

Finished with my viewing - the first Department Q movie - I didn't watch them in order because some total idiot critic said the first one wasn't any good because it was all backstory and didn't focus enough on the actual crime and villain - well, wrong.  Best of the three.  And yes it would have helped to watch it first.
