You know what I did not realize...actress Anita Page, star of BROADWAY MELODY OF 1929, is still alive...and is still a working actress! My gosh she is like 94 years old! What a gal!

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from Fairfax!

I didn't leave Richmond until just after Noon, but after waking up still very sleepy and tired at 8:00, I decided it would be best for me to make the drive up not so sleepy and tired. Good self-advice, dontcha think?

Great day for a drive. On the cold side, but nice and sunny. And the traffic was non-existent too.

The only "bad" part of the drive was when I switched to my usual DC area radio stations after passing Fredericksburg. I hit the button for WETA, 90.9, just in time to hear the 1:01 NPR news. Then the news continued... Ohh... I forgot that the change to the all-news format started yesterday.

So, instead of listening to some classical music like I was hoping to, I tuned into a pop station for a while, then turned the radio off, and finished my trip up just listening to my car on the highway. Ah, well...

Before heading to my parents' house, I made a stop to get my hairs cut at my favorite barber shop. Unfortunately, my cut today wasn't as good as it usually is. I had to to do some fine tuning when I got to my parents' place. Luckily, with my hair, after just a day or two of growth, any inconsistencies even out on their own.

Hmmm...

Yet one more vote for Flower Drum Song.

The only other films I can think of right now are two French ones: Un Coeur En Hiver, and La Lectrice. -And they may actually be available on DVD by now - I haven't checked on them in a while.

-Btw, to tie this in with the mention of "Jabberwocky", there is a very amusing sequence in "La Lectrice" where the Reader (The "lectrice") is reading some Lewis Carroll.

Phantasmagorical is used in the theme song for "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" - what a phabulous word! The DP is quite the creator of homemade MarchMellows, and they ARE yummlicious, great in cocoa. DVD releases.... any Broadway show that was videotaped for archive purposes, I think, by now should have a chance to make it to DVD. And from what I've read, there are a lot.

I've seen Anita Page interviewed in quite a few documentaries ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE. Seems like she was just featured in the Irving Thalberg documentary that aired last month on TCM, and in quite a few other ones as well.

Poor old dear in her interviews is always, like Mae West in her later years, wearing a huge honey blonde wig and enough makeup to paint the entire cast of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. But she's a grand old trouper, so I don't mean to sound indelicate or critical - just informative.
