TOD - My father had a classic mid-60's Ford Mustang.  When I finally decided to learn to drive (between my junior and senior years in college), he said if I could learn to drive a standard transmission I could have the Mustang.  Alas, the stick shift proved beyond my patience and the Mustang slipped away.

Funny today's topic should be cars, because mine is in for its 30,000 mile service this morning.  I wanted to get it in shape for my drive to Cleveland on the 18th to catch my plane for the big weekend in NYC.

I didn't watch anything on tv last night.  Instead I went to my sister's house.  Her husband's sister had left her sunglasses in my car.  And they are leaving for Florida today.  So I went to bring them to her.  And to see her kids.  Unfortunately (for me) they had picked up their friend Larry and brought him to my sister's house too.  Larry is my sister's husband's best friend.  The kids are so in love with him, that they don't pay much attention to anyone else when he is there.  Especially the little boy        (4 1/2 yrs old).    But it was still a great visit.

The funny thing is the 4 yr old came up to me at one point and asked where his hamburger was - the one you put in water and it grows.  I had gotten him one last summer when he was visiting.  And he remembered it.  I figured my sister had probably thrown it out, but i told him to go ask her. And she was like "did you remind him of that?"  NOPE, somehow he remembered on his own.  Anyhow I told him I'd get him another one for when he gets back from seeing Mickey Mouse for the first time.

Good Morning all.  I am feeling the complete opposite of splendiferous... I have a headache, my eyes feel like they will explode any moment ( and I believe it may be a blessed relief if they do) and it seems some invisible person is poking a an invisible, but extremely sharp  ice pick into my left ear drum.

Other than that I'm fine.

FWIW:  I watched "Twentieth Century" this weekend.  I found it forced and unfunny in toto.

I also thought it pretty much a "ham" sandwich for both Barrymore and Lombard.

I guess that was cute back then...and perhaps it led to other forms of comedy...but sheesh!

The Topic of the Day:

The next car that I buy will have to get much better gas mileage than what I'm getting now.  I have a Ford Escort that gets about 30 mpg.  That's not too bad, but I'd like something like the Prias!  Two people at my work have them and they just look so cool!

If I could have any fantasy car, I've always loved the car that Robert Preston drives/flies in "The Last Starfighter."  Being able to travel through space with the convenience of just landing on a planet and driving around would be pretty exciting. ;D

Haven't really caught up with the weekend's posts, so congrats/vibes to those who need or deserve them.

Dream car?  A mid 60s Chrysler New Yorker/Imperial (Adverts for those in my parents' mid-60s Playbills always made them seem sooooooooo elegant.  Of course, I would probably have to learn to drive again, in order to park such a boat.), or maybe a late 60s 4-door Continental, where the doors that opened opposite of each other, and perhaps Mary Richard's Mustang.  (My brother, DR Jay, nearly bought a Checker once.  I don't recall what swayed him out of following through.)

This weekend was horribly busy for me....we had 6 performances in 4 days; a free concert earlier in the week, and honestly, a Stars of Tomorrow show that I managed to avoid having to go to.  The Dear Partner covered it himself over the weekend.  Today was the first day in a very long time where all I wanted to do was stay in bed.  But next next week is spring break in these parts, so I will take a couple of days off.  By the end of this week, I will have worked 18 days straight in a row.  I think there's a period in April that is even worse.  Will this school year ever end???

AOL is being completely retarded and can't be used at this time.

Here is the description of the baseball direct from eBay:

You are bidding on a vintage leather Official League ball, signed by 8 members of the cast of 1959's "Lil Abner", and it's Director, Mel Frank. The movie is based on Al Capp's comic strip, and features many of the same cast from the Broadway show of the same name. The ball was signed at Dodger Stadium in 1959. The cast is headed by the late Stubby Kaye. The other signees are: Peter Palmer, Leslie Parrish, Howard St. John, Joe E. Marks, Bern Hoffman, Carmen Alverez, and Billie Hayes. Most of the actors have also added their character's name. The signatures are all boldly signed in blue inks, and the ball is very clean.

Got my federal taxes back already...so bought a few DVDs this weekend, including YOUTH OF THE BEAST which I am very much looking forward to watching this weekend....currently I have been watching episodes of the vintage tv series TREASURY MEN IN ACTION (a.k.a FEDERAL MEN). Kind of a nifty show...lots of cool guest stars (a.k.a B-movie actors).

I can get AOL to load but keep getting a pop-up that says it hasn't properly connected to the Internet.  AOL is beyond belief.  Safari is working perfectly, of course.  Perhaps I'll call AOL later and get a credit for down time.

Ben, Dublin is absolutely beautiful at Christmas time!!  We had the good fortune to stay at a hotel across from the park and a short walk to the center of the old town.  We also had the best Indian food in Dublin.  Every day I went to Thornton’s and purchased Mint Humbugs and Special Toffee.
