My question for AX BK DAY:

[It's not about parakeets]

Do you receive royalties from your tv appearances when they are sold on DVDs?  Or is it not indicated on your check?

It is 14 degrees right now.  My sister and I are going to Aldi's in a couple of hours.

When I see that newsman that DR GEORGE was talking about, I always think it's Jake Lacy.

Well, it's warmed up from the mid-teens to 23 degrees outside, and we should get up to about freezing today.

Back to 13 tonight, though.

When I was in high school, two of my favorite books - which I read over and over again - were Six Plays by Rodgers & Hammerstein and Six Plays by Kaufman and Hart.  All of BK's comments on "The Man Who Came To Dinner" have got me hot to read it again, so last night I read Act One.  I had completely forgotten all that happens before Whiteside makes his first appearance.  It's fast and furious.

Now I want to see BK's production.

I LOVED those books, also discovered in high school, and I still have my original copies. The Modern Library editions themselves were a joy to discover then -- those two, along with The Canterbury Tales (which I never read all the way through but I still treasure that damned book) and the Gilbert & Sullivan plays in the Modern Library "Giant" edition.

I remember where I bought most of them, too. Gaul's Books & Records in Fort Lauderdale. Probably my first store of such wonderful discoveries.

I'm afraid this poor Rodgers & Hammerstein dust jacket got abused, as I was wont to abuse things in those days, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

In pulling these off the shelf, I'm reminded that the Kaufman & Hart book was NOT the one I first read in those years. My copy of "The Man Who Came to Dinner" was in Six Modern American Plays. That and ""The Glass Menagerie" were my most-read plays from this book. In fact, it's the only one of these that isn't my original  as that copy had been abused into nothingness years ago. I later acquired this one, and cut out and stored with it my silly little note of identification and date/place of purchase. Burdine's was a wonderful South Florida department store, and those were the days when department stores took pride in having respectable book and record departments.

Getting back to the weather, I am SOOOO glad yesterday's jet stream cold front storm did NOT drop any snow or even very much rain here. We had about five minutes of snow in the middle of the day, then it stopped and the rest of the weather pattern moved over us without so much as a peep. Thank you for that, Mother.  <(Nature, of course)

Vibes for TCB and the cold from Hell.
That's the one I had several weeks ago, and I made sure to return it promptly so that someone else could use it.

I'm up, I'm up - I was in bed by two but had a terrible allergy attack and so didn't fall asleep until three-thirty.  Alarm went off at eleven but I stayed in bed until noon - eight hours of sleep, I think.
