I found a book at the library called 99 Bottles, written by Andre Houston Mack. He’s from San Antonio and got his start as a sommelier here, which is when I met him.

We’ve stayed in touch via Facebook as he went to work in California at the famed French Laundry.

Could there be a crossover sequel, Mean Girls with Cats?

You mean, Mean Cats??

Reading Andre’s book has been fun because he mentions all of the places he worked here and people he worked with, sometimes by name. The stories or lessons tie in with a wine or spirit, leading to the title 99 Bottles.

Topic of the Day:  just received from The Metropolitan Opera (bought through Amazon.com), the new Met Opera cast recording of Porgy and Bess.

One of the stories left me teary-eyed. He wrote about mutual friends, Richard and Gigi Toupal, who were amazingly generous with a number of us. When I got laid off and too many people dropped me from their social circle, Richard kept calling, asking me to lunch, even inviting me to their extravagant Christmas Eve party. Then Richard died, which left a big hole.

Andre doesn’t mention Richard’s death, but he does create a lasting tribute to two wonderful people.

I didn't realize that this new recording of Porgy and Bess is a live recording.  I do now. :)

I am home from a long day out and about.  My hair is finally cut.  I kept cancelling during December because of mobility issues.

The reading of Mack & Mabel went very well.  Because i am a perfectionist, there were more clams than I would have liked, but Rob and Joshie were very happy with things overall.  The orchestrations are quite beautiful, and the band played very well./

DR Chassmith, if I'd known you had a free day, I would have invited you to the reading!

The cats have eaten their Fancy Feast Chicken Feast with gravy, and I'll give them a treat in another hour.
