Ann is off somewhere being happy and gay, eating cake and belly-dancing.

I'm back from a wonderful luncheon with Miss Tammy Minoff and friend. They've been working on a treatment for a TV movie idea, which I've been helping them with for the past month. It's very good now - they just have to do a few more little smoothing.

I took a tiny respite from my reasonable eating to have a small Caesar and some pasta. I've been disappointed with CPK the last few times I've been there, but I must say the food was actually superb today. And now I am quite logey.

"Liaisons" may be a sarabande
"Every Day A Little Death" and "A Weekend in the Country" are 6/8, possibly in the barcarolle family (or jig?). Although Jonathan Tunick threw in the horns on the Rosenkavalier Waltz reference at the end, the number isn't technically a waltz.
The Miller's Son" begins as a slow waltz but jumps into duple time in the fast sections.

Well, dear readers, you won't believe it - I can barely believe it myself and yet I must for it is true. I was sitting on my couch like so much fish, feeling very logey. I started to watch the movie I was in the midst of, but I was just feeling too darn full to watch. So, I thought, perhaps a nice long walk will do me some good. I decided to go to my local DVD store, even though I'd been there yesterday and they hadn't had anything new. So, I took a nice walk (the weather is stunning here). I've been asking them to hold certain titles for me - sometimes they do, sometimes they forget. I walk in the store, and I'm whistling I'm Past My Prime since I have to rehearse it tomorrow with Miss Jessica Rush. The nice lady who runs the store, Vivian, says, "No singing allowed." I say, "It's Li'l Abner and I'm singing it until you get the DVD." At which point her husband says, "Li'l Abner? That came in last night." Vivian says she didn't know and therefore hadn't held it. He walked over to the case and lo and behold it was still there. O joy! O rapture! Li'l Abner is mine and I shall be watching it this very evening. They also had Teacher's Pet, so I got that, too. O joy! O rapture! I shall have the full Li'l Abner report for you in tomorrow's notes.

Hello everyone! I have caught up at last. I was enjoying all the various and sundried birthday wishes from all you wonderful folk. Thank you all so very much. So far my birthday has been rather uneventful. A normal day at work, a rather motion sickness-inducing ride home...that's about it. However, as we speak, DR Jed is behind me in the kitchen baking what looks to be a spectactularly delicious chocolate cake. I believe I will celebrate my birthday by blowing the diet and eating copious amounts of cake.

Oh yes, I believe I forgot to mention that I'm now working the same temporary test-scoring job as DR Jed. Temporary, but good money

What a day!

First day back to work. I took the pictures I have so far with me along with Penny’s book for “show and tell”. I had many fine comments on them but the one that took the cake was the picture of Ben and myself—just about EVERYONE thought we were (at the very least) cousins. They kept saying, “I didn’t know you had relatives in NY, I thought you were going to see some friends.”

The other hit was the picture of mini-bar. What can I say? I had tons of, “So which ones did you drink?” questions. Like I would. Geez.

I also proudly displayed my BK gift. You know, after looking at it in different lights and at different angles, I could almost swear it looks like a major religious icon. Which One, has yet to be determined, (Note to self, I need to check which is the hottest selling) but I feel that it IS possible…..

Not that I would part with such a treasure for ANY amount (Thought to self: Well, you do need to put up a privacy fence and you did want that note book computer….ah, hem)!

Soooo I just want to make it clear to anyone who happens to be cruising E-bay, if you happen to see a wrapper up for bid, no matter what religious icon it looks like, it is NOT mine!

I was also told (once again) that it was very quiet the whole time I was away. Funny, it’s never very quiet when I’m there. I just don’t understand.

The Hersery Kisses I brought every one were a hit as well. I told them it was “A kiss from NY”. I wish I could have had each of them personalized but I just couldn’t afford to do that.

When I came home, I had a package from DR George waiting for me! Such excitement! I can not thank you enough for the CD’s! I love them all but confess to being especially fond of two of them.

Can’t WAIT to listen to them.

DR’s Elmore and Ben, I’m glad you liked the little “Thank you” gifts I sent. I really appreciated your taking your time to show me around the city. It meant more to me then you will ever know.

This trip was so very different from the first one and it was all due to the wonderful people I met. I only wish I could have met more of you from the board. I hope someday I shall.

Despite what you think, I am usually very shy around people I don’t know—at least until you get to know me, then WATCH OUT. We were talking about that at work today. My boss said she remembers when I first started, I barely said a word to any one. Now, she doesn’t know what is going to come out of my mouth!

I wondered how I would react when I met you all in person. Funny, but I didn’t feel shy or backwards at all. It was all so comfortable from the first moment we said, “Hi, I’m…….”.

I’m rattling on. Sorry but it was such a nice day and despite my bellyaching about going back to work, I was very glad to see everyone again.

I finally put my feet on the floor around 10:00 this morning. I got myself spiffed up a bit, then headed across the street to Memphis Grits for breakfast.

I got there around 10:50, and there was already a pretty good crowd in the lobbby - which is actually smaller than one would think (well, at least smaller than I thought). All the prime viewing spots were taken, but I did manage to secure a piece of floor close to the fountain.

An announcement came on that gave a brief history of the Ducks. The whole thing started, more or less, as a joke of some hunters who though it would be a "good" idea to keep their live decoys (which were legal back then) in the marble fountain of the Peabody. Well, the "idea" stuck. Nowadays, a breeder breeds the ducks, Mallards, and they are allowed to mature at the Peabody. Once their stay at the Peabody has ended, they are returned to the breeder who then releases them back into the wild. In any case...

After the announcement, we are all directed to look towards the elevators. Music starts - a lively March, of course. The elevator doors open, and out come the ducks. -The ducks live in a "Penthouse" on the roof of the hotel when they are not in the fountain.

Lots of Oohhs and Aaahhs. Cameras flashing. Children giggling. Some clapping.

The Ducks march down the Red Carpet that is set up for them. Once they are all in the fountain - I believe there are five of them right now - the "Keeper" puts up the small barrier that keeps the Ducks in the fountain. More pictures.

At 5:00, the whole process is repeated in reverse as the Ducks make their way back up to their "Penthouse". I may try to get there at 4:30 in order to secure a better viewing spot, and take some more pictures.

I wanna see duck pictures!

The Red Line (LA 's only pure Subway) is quite a wonderful example of civic infrastructure. A considrerable part of the budget was set aside for "ART" - each of the stations had separately commissioned designs for the track levels as well as the concourses and street access. It's worth a ride to get off at each station and enjoy the designs. (Unlike Washington, DC's Metro which looks line a mine tunnel from Communist Russia!).

I say "pure" subway because both the Blue and Gold lines are a combination subway-light rail system. As a monument to beaurcratic idiocy, the Blue/Gold lines share the same tunnel system as the Red Line. but because of car-selection, use different track sizes
