I recorded Thoroughly Modern Millie on TCM several years ago and plan to make my own Blu-ray of it. It's never been released on Blu-ray, TCM broadcast it in hi-def (with the overture, intermission and exit music) and I was able to record it in hi-def, so it'll look pretty darned good. Now, I just need to finish it.

Listening to a barely teen gal play the Menotti piano concerto with Stokowski conducting - circa early 1950s - she would give any well-known pianist a run for their money, and Stokowski's conducting is absolutely the best I've heard for this piece.

As it turns out, we bought a whole box of them two years ago when one of our Carol Christmas actors was sick and we didn't want her infecting the cast. So, Doug went and got them from the theater

This Menotti concerto is the berries. Beautiful melodies. Unfortunately, the YouTube thing is from a horrid-sounding transcription disc and has tons of little skips and constant surface noise. I wonder if there's a good copy of it anywhere?

I must finish the Babes In Toyland lyrics conversion by Monday, so I may not see all the youtubue postings from yesterday. I lost yesterday afternoon watching Levi!, and don't regret that decision at all.

I didn't even mention how much I liked Lanny's orchestrations and the band.

DR TCB, my maternal grandmother who died in 1962, was diabetic, and I have memories of her injecting herself with insulin in various fleshy parts of her legs when she lived with us.

That leads to a digression. In the mid-1950s my Uncle Paul and his family moved into my grandmother's house at 711 Tenth Avenue. My grandmother then began a series of long visits with several of her her other six children: Jean didn't want her, Ruth lived in relative poverty in a very small house, Bob didn't want her, and that left Dorothy, Lois, and my mother. Between then and 1960, she stayed the most with us. She didn't get along with Dorothy's husband, Lois was her favorite daughter, my mother was her least favorite, yet she stayed the most with us. I loved her dearly and syill miss her.

Last night I watched the interviews with Jane Seymour, Leonard Whiting, and Don Bachardy on the new DVD of Frankenstein: the True Story, my friend Sam Irvin's project. I'm hoping to watch the movie over the weekend. I remember seeing it in 1973, but I remember very little about it.

After I noticed all those price increases for cat food on Amazon, I placed an order with Chewy.com last Tuesday. It took eight days to fill the order and ship it, but it took only two days to get here from California, and I am very happy to have it and ecstatic about the prices!

Kitty cleanup is over, the bed is made, and I think I will prepare for my pharmacy-post office trip. There was no mail yesterday, and I'm wondering if the post officer is only delivering to my building two or three times a week now. I'm waiting on three Netflix discs.

As mentioned in the notes, Jean Seberg makes just about any movie worth watching. I even loved her in AIRPORT.

I am a Thoroughly Modern Millie fan, and even though the film, is too long, I get a kick out of it. I think it tries at times to say "Aren't we camp?" and I think the movie's sense of camp would be brilliant if they stopped doing that. it has a sense of style that the dreadful stage version never achieved. Joy Layton's work is stylish, the costume design is really wonderful, and Andre Previn's arrangements, as well as his film score, are truly wonderful.
