Strange, but I would think it would be more grammatical to ask, Where the hell are the Ghost and Mrs. Muir.

No.  The title is singular, not "Where are the Ghost and Mrs. Muir," but "Where is it, The Ghost and Mrs Muir?"

I was living in my little Beverly Hills apartment when THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL opened, and I saw it at Mann’s Westwood — (am I naming the theater correctly? I sometimes have me doubts this early in the morn’) — and I returned once or twice with friends. I wish my memories were a little more solid regarding it. I would imagine it’s not impossible that BK and company were hanging around there at the same time.

At some point later I bought the soundtrack LP, the one with the yellow cover on Varese. Just looked at it, and my copy is pristine. It even has the shrink wrap, neatly slit, as only a relative few of my records still do. Copyright date is 1978 so I was still in that apartment.

If I ever rented it, it would have been on Beta. But I never did acquire the DVD, which is what BK refers to in the commentary, etc. I’ve been half tempted to get one to see what it looked like, since that and the BD are two different animals. But the Blu-ray is a favorite, for all of the many and sundry reasons.

Good English grammar is the one thing I maintain from a B.A. degree in Latin.  Once you understand Latin grammar, English is a breeze, but I certainly couldn't translate a line of it now!

When I first lived in Manhattan, there were still movie revival houses.  The Thalia was a block from my first NY apartment, and I spent many hours there.  Since I only lived in my first apartment between Dec. 1, 1979 and July 15, 1980, it was in that period that the Thalia had a one-day run of The First Nudie Musical.  Since my workplace, The Drama Book Shop, stocked the soundtrack recording of The First Nudie Musical, my best friend and co-worker Thom Heinrichs - wonderful composer and, briefly, boyfriend of Mr Sondheim's - went to see it after work and laughed ourselves silly.  There was a second feature we did not stay to see.  We went to our homes, but I loved the movie so much that I went back later to catch the final showing.

The next day I raved about the movie and exclaimed, I want to work with Bruce Kimmel!  Well, thirteen years later I did.

I miss all those revival houses, all gone now.  At the Thalia I saw TFNM and a lot of Pasolini's and John Waters' films for the first time.  At the Regency, I saw Music in the Air and James Whales's Show Boat for the first time.  At the Carnegie Hall cinema I saw Psycho for the first time since its first release as well as Laurence Olivier's The Beggar's Opera and Gigi for the first time and at Theatre 80 St, Marks, which was a big big schlep from the Upper West Side Bob Hope's The Cat and The Canary.

Don’t get me started on revival houses. Sometimes they could be like a home away from home.

I was only in the Carnegie Hall Cinema once, on an early ‘70s visit to NYC, for what I believe was my second ever serious viewing of Citizen Kane.

I dunno, though, seems like there was something else seen there. Or maybe that was a double feature.

It would be, if you were throwing a party and they were both late.

I watched TFNM not that long ago, and it was better than ever for me. I also rewatched the wonderful retrospective feature. But I need to take it out again to listen to BK’s commentary with the dearly departed Nick Redman.

What prompted me to watch it at just that time was the release of Creature. In immersing myself in that at the time, I ended up bingeing on both of them.

I cannot remember now where I first saw Citizen Kane.  Maybe it was the Carnegie Hall Cinema.

I first saw it somewhere in Cleveland, possibly at a college campus showing. The Carnegie viewing was because I was right there (I would have been staying at the Wellington) and it was a free time in my afternoon.

I like it in gladiator movies when the rich ladies eat a basket of figs and PEREGRINATES.

TOD:

I think I saw an ad for TFNM in the newspaper - but the first time it really became a THING for me was when I was reading a volume of Danny Peary's CULT MOVIES.

It was prominently featured and reviewed - with photos - and it sounded hilarious.

This was in the late 1980's so I didn't think I would ever see it.  Then one lunch hour - some friends from the Indiana School For the Deaf and I were having pizza in Broad Ripple and stopped into the Peaches Record Store.

I was perusing a large table of USED videos....and there among them was TFNM for $3.99.  I purchased it - watched it that night - and laughed so hard.....

I of course have the autographed BluRay and enjoy it from time to time alone and with friends.

It was an early one for me because at six in the a.m. Nathan had to fire off his “bird banger” (I think that’s what it’s called — it’s an exterminator’s thing) at a BEAR that had just knocked down every bird feeder. They hightail it out of there when you do that, no question. One just wishes they’d hightail it back to the damned wilderness. But one wishes a lot of things, doesn’t one.
