Re Topaz - the only way it's ever been shown in theaters is the release version of 127 minutes. I'm sure there was exactly one print of the preview version. The alternate endings have been on every home video release, including the Blu-ray, so yes, I've seen them all.

I know I've seen TOPAZ a couple of times, including in a theater when it was first released.

In fact, I have it on DVD in the Hitchcock Super Box set from Universal.

However, even after just watching the trailer, I really have very little memory of it.

DR singdaw, I think it was yesterday that you mentioned Patricia Routledge's singing career. In 1978 she sang the title role in Offenbach's La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein for the Camden Festival, several Gilbert & Sullivan mezzo roles for the BBC, and the Old Lady in the Scottish Opera production of Candide when it played the Old Vic in London. I wish there were a video of that.

Watching The White Countess with Natasha Richardson tonight. I loved it when I first saw it, which was shortly after her death. There's something wonderful about the scenes with her, Vanessa Redgrave and Lynn Redgrave. I hope I enjoy it as much as I did then.

Back from picking up no packages. Food has been ordered - Togo's sandwiches - a regular pastrami for now, a ham and Swiss mini for later - around 1100 calories, which is fine.

Not so far. But it's filmed in Shanghai shortly before the war. Imagine Casablanca in China. There will be conflict.

Bruce I posted this yesterday while you were busy. Do you have any advice for my cousin?

I have a question regarding book ratings on Amazon. My cousin wrote a book called #80: And Other Dog Stories, #80 referring to the identification number of a dog she rescued.

After reading my cousin's post on FB today I am confused about the ratings. I thought Amazon was rather strict and only those that purchased the books from Amazon could give them a rating. Maybe, someone/Bruce can explain this to me.

"As much as I would love it, not everyone is going to like me our like what I do. That is a fact. So today when I looked and saw I had a 3 star review on Goodreads, I had a sad face. It goes along with a 4 star review on Goodreads. Goodreads is owned by Amazon, so those stars appear on Amazon. 73 five stars, a 4 star and a 3 star. The 4 star person was kind enough to write something and I appreciate those words. 3 star person, not one word. It is hard to learn to improve without a few words.
So, I have a frowny face this morning. But there is nothing I can do about it. I am not going to re-write the book (although I seriously thought about it) It does not discount the 73 fantastic reviews. Some are not going to like my book and that is going to have to be OK."

Turns out food was delivered at 4:45, an hour after I ordered it - but the idiot driver, who is not only supposed to and required to text me when he leaves food, as well as ring the doorbell, did none of those things. Therefore, the hot sandwich sat out there for twenty minutes - I finally tracked it via Grubhub and saw it was delivered. Needless to say, sandwich was cold, not hot. I had a "chat" session from Grubhub and they gave me a code to save ten bucks from my next order, so that's good.

I have been trying for a month to understand how there can be stars on Amazon but no review - so, that problem is solved but they should NOT be doing that - using Goodreads stars on Amazon. They are NOT the same site. And yes, you're not always going to get five-star reviews, much as we all want those. In the end, if you're going to love the five-star reviews, you have to accept the others. On one of my Adriana Hofstetter mysteries, some fifteen-year-old girl gave me a one-star review because she didn't buy the character because the character (fifteen, also) calls her mother "mommy." Well, lots of fifteen year olds call their mother mommy I hate to tell this kid. And while the temptation was strong to really take her to task for her inane review, I resisted it and Goodreads recommends not interacting with your reviewers. Don't ever consider rewriting anything you're happy with because some stranger says something. It is YOU that has to be happy - if YOU are then everything else is what it is and you accept the good with the bad.
