Fledgling conductor Leonard Bernstein trained under George Szell.  Szell was a bit of a task-master, apparently, but he really knew his stuff.

Good Afternoon.  We finished Confirming the Class of 2020 - 6 confirmation masses to make up for the 1 we used to have before we couldn't have crowds.  I'm glad that's done.

So, before I head back to church for the Saturday evening Mass, I intend to start throwing this away and that away and put things in boxes.  Tomorrow, I think I'll head to the storage unit and do the same.

Yesterday, I gave my notice - the same day I got the lease renewal for my current apartment.  I even received a call from corporate headquarters asking if I had any questions about the lease, I told them I submitted my notice.  They tried to talk me into staying by saying we could "negotiate" the amount - I told her I had already signed somewhere else.  She asked why I was leaving - I told her a few issues.  I didn't have time for the entire list!

Interesting they wanted you to stay.  May you be much happier in your new place.

The important question, Elmore, is does the new fridge match the rest of your appliances?

It was probably only about five years ago that finally all my appliances matched. At one time I had an almond fridge, a white dishwasher, and a black stovetop.

Great news from Larry!

I know how frustrating and inconvenient it is when you have to wait for delivery people. At least ther delivery men were helpful and pleasant.

It does look nice when they all match, or just have two colors ;)

I often send funny stuff like this to a friend, but he's such a non-cook that I'm not sure he'd even get it.

The building management here is upgrading the electrical system and I've been informed that the electrician will be here on Wednesday. The fuse box in my unit is on the wall behind my file cabinet. It's a pint-sized file cabinet, but it's still too heavy for me to move. I've been wanting to do more tossing and reorganizing anyway, so yesterday and today I've been doing that in spurts, anticipating that he'll have to move things. I've gotten a lot done, but there's still a lot left to do.

The refrigerator is a new Crosley, whatever the hell that is, and I have finished stocking it and dealing with the debris and rubble in removing the old one.  The office personnel may be rude bastards, but their two delivery men were very kind and helped me with things I cannot do in my current state, like unplug the microwave and get it off the top of the fridge and then put it back.  I'm currently a mess, and should get a bath after the kitty cleanup.

Great news!

Good luck finding your kindle DR George.  That is my worst nightmare. Although hopefully you know where it is.

I actually got the new kindle oasis for Prime Day. And I love it so much!

I think it was Jrand who mentioned yesterday about having a mail-in ballot rejected. Mail-in ballots are inspected by humans to check for a valid signature, among other things. I believe that's the primary reason for rejection and is done prior to opening the ballot.

I was happy it warmed up to 48 degrees today, however, it is a bit windy.  I wore lots of layers to walk.

We drove to Fred Meyer today and had planned on walking over to Fort Vancouver before shopping.  Since it began raining we shopped and drove home, though the rain apparently stopped right after we went into the market.  Still, the weather was muchnicer by the time we did walk.

Thus far, this Szell box is absolutely spectacular - still in the mono years, but the sound is incredible and my Lord the performances and playing is superb.  Even the composers I don't love, like Mozart and Haydn - it's like hearing music I haven't heard.  And there IS a lot of music in this set that's not familiar to me, so that's part of the fun of these - getting to know stuff I would never hear otherwise.  The original jackets are great, the 146 page booklet is gorgeous and has all the recording information.  The stereo stuff starts with disc 20.  I'm currently on about disc four, just savoring it all.  More about it in the notes.

Someone joined me up in one of those Facebook groups - this one called Classic Film Lovers, populated by some of the stupidest idiots ever - just morons of the highest order, who actually know nothing about classic films and don't want to told anything either.  The final straw was just now - someone bragged that he was teaching his girlfriend about classic films and showing her Hitchcock's Rebecca even though she wanted to see the remake on Netflix.  And this fool added a photo of his widescreen TV with Rebecca on it - IN WIDESCREEN - yes, he was stretching the image or zooming in to fill his screen.  I of course went in and asked him why he was in a group called Classic Film Lovers if he was doing that to a classic film shot in 1.33, Academy ratio, which should have black bars on either side of the image.  And a bunch of completely moronic individuals came after ME, saying this idiot could watch the film any way he wanted and filmmakers be damned.  I came back in a particularly ME fashion and annihilated every one of them - saying that the group was filled with twelve-year-old know-nothings and that disrespect for filmmakers should not be tolerated by ANYONE.  I left that up for a bit, then nuked the entire conversation and left the group.  Stupidity knows no bounds on Facebook.
