TOD:

A Room with a View
Call Me By Your Name
Time Regained (based on the last volume of Proust)
Wise Blood
Hitchcock’s Rebecca

I've read the book and seen the movie of Call Me By Your Name, so that's on my (relatively short) list.

James Ivory has a special place on that list. His adaptations of Howards End, Remains of the Day, Maurice, The Europeans and even Slaves of New York are all excellent adaptations of their sources.

TOD: I don't know about book to movie, since I don't really do movies.

My daughter gave me some books that musicals are based on. Not quite the same, but sorta.

I didn't know that Szell conducted at the Met.  It makes sense, but I never think of him as an opera conductor.

The great Ming Cho Lee has died. I’m glad his obit included Whoop-Up. He wouldn’t have wanted that work to be forgotten.

There is an "LA Opera" version of The Ghosts of Versailles available on CD. But no other video version that I am aware of.

I remember (now) knowing that he'd conducted there, but I'd forgotten.

Nice find. Great cast, too. Now I want that!

One of my few bootleg operas on LP is a Met broadcast of Don Giovanni with Pinza. I'm trying to remember who's conducting. I want to say Bruno Walter. Could that be right? I'm going to go check right now...

Yes! Walter conducting, with a similar heavy-duty cast:  Pinza, Bampton, Norman Cordon, Kullman, Novotna, Sayao, Kipnis, and Mack Harrell. I haven't played this one in a hundred years, but I will soon.

I think it was getting the novacaine shots I was hearing. Honestly, this dentist has never hurt me, even during the shot. He's very good at it.

I am sensitive to cold water & the air blower.  I don't feel them on the area that has been numbed but the rest of my mouth, ouch.  I can usually be quiet about the pain as I know it is coming.  My dentist office is also good about warming the water but sometimes it cools down.

Probably his dental phobia, which led to the need to extract four teeth, made everything so much worse.

Likely, however, teeth do break.  I broke one on a grain of rice.

DR Jennifer I missed the part that your knew Kindle is an Oasis.  I am excited for you.  Congratulations.

Thanks. My other kindle (which still works although slower) is like 10 years old. And I use it every day. So it's quite exciting. It took me a bit to get used to all of the new features (as it is very different from my older one). The main thing that confused me was when to use the page turns, vs tapping, vs swiping.  And there was one feature (where to find my notes) that took me a week until i figured it out perfectly.

;D  I get that.  I still don't use "notes" on my tablet.

DR Vixmom's moving story of voting with her mother inspired me to share this story of a 104 year old woman voting.
https://www.newsweek.com/video-104-year-old-ruth-woman-voting-against-trump-1542074?fbclid=IwAR2hXlq9QodvzxF9TXyIo3P__Q5_r_qw-y20Z3xoP3dly_bb7P-8rhbyzcM

That’s wonderful, thank you for sharing, Jane

I am glad you enjoyed it.  Unlike this woman I suspect you and your mother were not expressing who they were voting for ;)

Jane, you said you didn’t much care for Beach Read. I’m an hour in and am rather irritated. I can easily move on to something else or listen to the last 90 minutes or so. Suggestions? Anyone else read it?

It seems you like it less than I did.  I suggest jumping to the end or simply moving on to something better.

If you're talking about Beach Read by Emily Henry then I have read it.  Most people love this book.  To me it was just okay. But I think that part of it is that I read it in March (right when quarantine started).  I was looking for a light fun romance, something to make me feel good and make me happy. And to me this book was not that at all.

Mostly I recall being somewhat bored.  It certainly isn't your typical light fun romance story.

My hair is finally long enough to tie at the back. But it’s not long enough for a man bun. I know that will upset some, but I guess I’ll just have to live with it.

He was at least my age. I don't think these were wisdom teeth.

I had 5 wisdom teeth. They passed my x-ray around the office that day.

Had!  How many were pulled?

I refuse to read or watch The Girl in the Spider’s Web out of respect for Stieg Larsson.  It is sad that he died, and died without leaving a will.  It should be a lesson to everyone who has not made a will.

I don't, either.  I haven't found any reason to, but if people do need or want them, it's a cool feature.

Oh no. This is some shocking news:

New York’s Longest Running Actor’s Equity Theatre,  Westchester Broadway Theatre, Takes It’s [sic] Final Bow

For those who don't know, it was an extremely popular and successful dinner theater located near White Plains, NY.

Then I worked on project one and got some good stuff, then I made today's meal - steak.  Since this particular steak has only 400 calories, I'll have something else light later.
