I didn't know that Szell conducted at the Met. It makes sense, but I never think of him as an opera conductor.

One of my few bootleg operas on LP is a Met broadcast of
Don Giovanni with Pinza. I'm trying to remember who's conducting. I want to say Bruno Walter. Could that be right? I'm going to go check right now...
Yes! Walter conducting, with a similar heavy-duty cast: Pinza, Bampton, Norman Cordon, Kullman, Novotna, Sayao, Kipnis, and Mack Harrell. I haven't played this one in a hundred years, but I will soon.
