I didn't watch an epic yesterday. Making up for it with The Irishman this morning. I hope I make it through.

EPIC spelled backward is CIPE.

This is just something I'm curious about, if anyone knows:

Who is the "Ann Trulove" who has posted a number of Jerry Hadley videos on YouTube?

Well, I will say that my second bottle of pills was dispatched much more quickly and efficiently with my new pill cutter than with a freestyle paring knife.      :P

Bought myself a present yesterday. Amazon had a 60% off sale off a 15-piece Henckels knife set. Couldn't say no. It arrived already.

And it's beautiful. Making some soup later. Will be putting several of the pieces to good use for that.

I've made it through 2 hours of The Irishman, thanks to the humor. I'm surprised at how sickly funny it is.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  After virtual church and in-real-life brunch with Richard, I'm now between sessions at virtual ALA Midwinter.  Just heard US Poet Laureate Joy Harjo in conversation with Jill Bialosky and will soon hear Cicely Tyson.

Then, for a change of pace, I'll tune our TV to the 2 pro football games that will determine who plays in the Super Bowl.

The Irishman has ended. I really enjoyed it. Best picture of last year? Hardly, but a fun, if overlong, piece of moviemaking. With 11 minutes of credits.

As with too many Scorcese films, the women are nothing more than wallpaper. Yet I really liked Anna Paquin, who didn't speak much but used her eyes to say a lot.

Who is the "Ann Trulove" who has posted a number of Jerry Hadley videos on YouTube?

I'm guessing it's some demented fan.  I met Hadley backstage at the Met after a performance of The Rake's Progress.  My neighbor at the time sang the Ann Trulove in the performance; she covered for Dawn Upshaw and Kathleen Battle at the Met.  He was not pleasant, and I did not like him.  I later did some arrangements for an operetta concert with Dawn Upshaw in Vienna, conducted by Todd Ellison, and the morning of the concert Hadley cancelled, leaving Todd and Dawn to improvise a concert.  I believe that was the beginning of his vocal difficulties that led to his suicide.

From Bruce:

I can't read the NY Times. From everyone's posting about it and the reaction to it, it seemed like another Times hit piece of criticizing Democrats.

Interesting.  I did not see that response to it.  At first I thought the piece was going to be critical & found it kind.  Oh well.  I was only half awake when I read it.

My grocery delivery yesterday was completed with little fuss, and no substitutions.

And less than two hours from when I had placed the online order.  So, satisfactory all the way around.

That sounds very convenient.

DR TCB, three cats? Or is our DR Jeanne taking too many pain meds?

LOL.  There were three photos and the cats do look alike.

I would think so.  The inexpensive price of pill cutters is well worth it.  My first two were given to me by the NIH.

Did anyone else listen to the Met radio re-broadcast yesterday of Verdi's Il Trovatore from Feb 1961, from the Old Met, featuring the Met debuts of Leontyne Price and Franco Corelli?  Exciting.

Good Afternoon.  Frustrating day at church, but it's over now.  I think we all go from being patient with the pandemic to cursing it, today is the latter.  I need to work on patience and lashing out when things aren't going right.

Patience vibes, Matthew. Thankfully, church is a forgiving place.

At least, it's supposed to be.
