DR Ben, I am glad to hear Anthony's show went well.   I have misplaced the show schedule I printed out... Is the show still running on the 14th ?  That would probably be the only day we could get in.  I think it would be fun show for the three of us to get to.

Oh  a request to all NYC DR's ...

I received this email today

Quote
We wanted to let all of you know that the Original Cast Recording of "Little Women" is now available for purchase at the theater and online at www.ghostlightrecords.com!  The CD features 20 tracks, and a beautiful 24 page booklet, featuring complete lyrics and full color photos!

We're thrilled with the album, and are proud to have preserved this wonderful musical for generations to come!  The album is also available in stores across the country!  There will be a special CD signing event at the Virginia Theatre in New York City on May 7th, after the matinee performance (4:45pm).  Come by the theatre, pick up a CD and meet the cast!  ALSO... be sure to check out the Little Women blog at http://littlewomen.typepad.com to see cast comments on the CD!

Is there any NYC DR who would be available (and more importantly willing) to go to the signing event?  In the Happentance that you are  (willing and able) I would send you the $$ right away .

The Vixter has a 9 am NYSSMA solo  in Bohemia, a 12 call for the 2 Pm show and a 6 PM call for the 8 PM show so there is no way we can get in there on th 7th.

If no one wishes to brave the hordes of screaming teenage girls and their moms and grandmas
I shall simply get her a CD from the website.

Thanks!!

Vixmom your mailbox is full.

Yes, Anthony's show will still be running on May 14th. The performance will be at 8pm. Since it's a small theatre I suggest calling the theatre and making a reservation. The number is 1-212-288-3246, Ext. 3. The number is a 24-hour answering machine. Leave your name, number of tickets requested, the date and a phone number. If you don't hear back from them your reservation is confirmed. They will only call back if there is a problem.

Sorry, I am unable to help with the CD signing. I would love to help out our budding Musical Theatre star but previous plans prevent me from fullfilling her wish.

No problem.. I really do not expect any one will want to spend their Saturday evening doing this, but nothing ventured nothing gained, hey? (And maybe one of the NYC DR's were palnning to be there anyway to get their Mom or sister or niece  a Mother's day present!) :D

Favorite War Films:

ALL QUITE ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930 version)

SUICIDE BATTALION (1958 AIP film starring Touch Conners)

AWAY ALL BOATS (1956) starring George Nader, Lex Barker, Jeff Chandler, William Reynolds, and Keith Andes...in other words, most of Universal's male B-rate movie stars.

And, like JRand54, I like BETWEEN HEAVEN AN HELL...co-starring Mr. Ken Clark!!

THE BEST OF EVERYTHING has some interesting things to recommend it, that's for sure!  As MR BK says,  the locations filming in NYC is very good, and in addition to everything else, the title song sung by MR Johnny Mathis.

DR VIXMOM it sounds like the Vixter's birthday was a whirlwind of fun!  I hope lots of pictures were taken.  And are there any PETER PAN photos online.

And DRBEN thanks for the ANTHONY report.  It sounds like an interesting evening of theatre!  Any photos online?

I really loved John Huston's THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE which I found effective despite MGM's tinkering with it.

I agree that GLORY is very powerful (Matthew Broderick a tad miscast but he tries hard), and I like THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, too, as well as SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

One of the old school war movies I liked was PORK CHOP HILL. I watched it on a TV at the beach one rainy July afternoon and was very impressed with it.

I've never seen BATTLEGROUND but I understand it's wonderful.

And someone mentioned STALAG 17 which I also thought was excellent. Forgot to add it to my list above.

I didn't get around to mentioning my favorite Otto Preminger films yesterday, but they certainly would include LAURA, ANATOMY OF A MURDER, and ADVISE AND CONSENT.

Morning all.....

War movies:  I have to say that I am not much of a war movie person, though I will also agree with whoever said (CP?) that THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES is one of the best.  It is.

Speaking of the THE BEST titles, THE BEST OF EVERYTHING is one of my guilty pleasures.  I think the first time I saw it, it was actually on a big screen, coupled with VOTD at the Cinema Village on 12th Street.  It was "3 Career Girls 3" double feature night.  And while Suzy Parker in a back alley has nothing on Patty Duke in a back alley, it still is delightful fun. Great locations, great song, great Joan, great burgundy dress on Miss Parker.

I'm up, I'm up.  Can't tell how Ye Olde Voice Box is yet, but I think it will be just fine.  I'll have to have my EmergenC, then slowly start doing some warmup oohs and aahs.  I slept pretty well - weird dreams again.  The locale kept switching from the Fox lot to the Warners lot (I mean the backgrounds for whatever I was dreaming) - it was funny.

According to the Amazon site, THE BEST OF EVERYTHING  on DVD is not due for release until tomorrow. bk got an early release and possibly DR JRand did, too (or he's referring to a videotape of the movie which has been around awhile.)

Yes, I got an early release - I actually thought it wasn't coming for another couple of weeks.

I got a lovely e-mail from dear reader Hisaka, who says hello to everyone and wants everyone to know she misses them.  Her mother has had some health issues (now feeling better), and she's been working, as well.  She'll be back with us in about a week, and I, for one, say hoo and ray.  Jane, she thanks you for your e-mail.
