But the volunteer work was fascinating because it was so chaotic. We only had four ushers for a concert with more than 3,000 in attendance. The security people did nothing but hang around, leaving us four to take tickets and police the gate.

People kept trying to go to their cars and expect to come back in. We would say no, you can’t do that. Five people, male and female, on separate occasions said they had to go to their car to get tampons. We sent them to the nearby medical tent.

A lot of scalped or bad tickets were out there, but we were told to let them in anyway. We only had three ticket scanners and before the end of the evening all were out of order.

We were initially told we could leave at 8 pm and one volunteer did. She was developing a migraine. The remaining three of us ushered until 10:30, which made for a 6.5-hour shift. We were awarded a couple of drink tickets, but the bar tent closed too soon after we got off duty. I got a beer. I had wanted a gin and tonic, but they were out of tonic.

The concert, by the way, was at an outdoor amphitheater, so we were working in the heat. That wasn’t pleasant.

DR TCB I know how painful the smoke can be on sensitive lungs, yet I am sure it is much worse with COPD.  Do you have an N95 masks?

Nope.  So far they think the BC smoke will stay in Eastern Washington.

Oh, my goodness, John!  I can't imagine ushering for an event like that! :o

My mother is home. The doctor said that her wrist surgery went well. Now the recuperation begins.

Patience, young grasshopper.

Black olives, green olives or pimento-stuffed olives in potato salad?

My mother used pimento-stuffed green olives/

I don’t use them in my potato salad, but they are certainly part of my shrimp-macaroni salad.
